MARINI'S POV

As much as I loved my work I always took my weekends off. This was my time to relax and unwind from all the stress of the week. I sometimes worked on Saturdays but that was optional and in the comfort of my home so it didn't actually count as a working day.

I wasn't feeling particularly jolly when I woke up Saturday morning because of all the happenings of the previous day. That host Susan or whatever her name was had gone too far. I had specifically asked not be asked the question about my relationship status but she had disobeyed direct orders from her boss and asked me anyway. What sort of employee was she? I wasn't hoping she lost her job because that would be too harsh but I hoped that Grace punished her accordingly.

I was not ashamed of being single and didn't care if people found out. The reason I refused to be asked that question on air was because anytime I had an interview and was asked that question there was an increase in the number of suitors I got. A lot of people wanted to date me for a lot of different reasons like my wealth, my looks, my status, my company and I hated that. I always got proposals from a lot of men but the number always seemed to increase whenever I said I was single on an interview. It's like people saw that as a plea for help. They saw it as a way for me to seek out someone to date me.

That was definitely not the case so I had stopped answering that question. It didn't mean men stopped approaching me with the stupid idea of getting together but their numbers dwindled. All I wanted so some peace of mind and I don't think people actually understood that. I didn't mind being single. It was my life and it was none of people's business. I think I should make a billboard announcing that so people could just understand once and for all. My life. My rules. My business.

"What are you thinking about so hard?"Isaac asked joining me in the kitchen where I was having breakfast in my silk pajamas.

It was mid morning and he had just come from showering after his morning exercise. We had both slept in that why we were having breakfast late.

"The interview yesterday is still stuck in my head." I admitted wanting to let it out to someone else before it drove me crazy.

"I don't think you should let it affect you that much. I'm sure people do things that offend you all the time." He reasoned as he started on his own breakfast.

We cooked on alternative days to maintain the balance.

"Yeah and I'm usually very fast in getting over my anger but for some reason I can't get over this one." I confessed.

"I wish there was something I could do to help. Working out helps sometimes but we both know how you don't like that." He suggested.

"Anything else but that." I agreed and we were both silent for a few minutes as we are thinking of stuff to do.

I really needed to get my mind off that but there was nothing to do. Honestly why couldn't I think of something?

"What's this?" Isaac asked holding up an envelope that was on the counter.

"My lawyer just dropped those off. They are our permits for the firearm ownership. I thought I'd get myself one too in the process of getting yours." I explained.

"Do you even know how to use a gun?" He asked genuinely but with teasing tone.

"No but I'm sitting next to someone who according to his records had excellent marksmanship so you can teach me....." I trailed off for a while when the perfect idea came to mind.

"Actually I just got the perfect idea. You and I are going to get our guns right now and going to the shooting range. I'm going to pretend that target is Susan and put bullet holes in her." I exclaimed excitedly.

Isaac chuckled at my enthusiasm "I'm not going to say no to that. I have missed the feel of a gun in my hand."

"Awesome. Let me go shower. Get the dishes please." I requested getting up from the stood finishing up the last of my eggs.

"Sure just slow down and don't hurt yourself." Isaac shouted at me as I ran up the stairs.

"Okay." I replied slowing down but I was still very excited.

Finally some excitement to this boring day.

I emerged about forty five minutes later dressed in a white spaghetti trap white tank top tucked into high waisted jeans and red sneakers. My hair was in unruly waves around my face and I didn't put on any make up except for some chapstick. I also made sure to carry a jacket in case it got cold or we came back late, sunglasses and of course my handbag which had everything a lady many need in case of an emergency. Don't judge me. I liked my bags.

I found Isaac in the living room talking to Kim. I'd never seen a more well behaved dog than him. He was left alone here all day and didn't mess up anything. Given that Helena was here too but I'm sure even if she wasn't he would still behave. We'd find that out today since he was being left all alone for the first time. I don't think he'd be bored though. We always left the backdoor open so he could go out back and explore chasing the squirrels and trying to catch butterflies.

When Kim saw me he strutted towards me and as we always greeted each other I held out my hand for him andΒ  he licked it non stop wagging his tail. Isaac usually got jumped on and licked on the face but I think Kim realized that's not something I would enjoy so he settled for my hand.

"Are you going to be a good boy today Kim all on your own?" I asked and he barked twice as if he could understand me.

I think dogs actually understood us, we just couldn't understand them.

"That's my good boy. See you later." I said scratching behind his ears.

Isaac stood up from the sofa where he was watching us and I noticed that he had changed into camouflage pants with brown boots and a grey short sleeved T-shirt exposing his arms. For the first time I actually got a good glimpse of his tattoos. I had seen them peeking from the collar of his shirts but never seen all of them. It was a tribal tattoo was intricate markings that I found fascinating. I didn't have a tattoo myself but I had always found them intriguing.

"Ready to go?" He asked snapping me from my thoughts.

"Yes let's go." I replied grabbing the envelope with our permits and we walked towards the connecting door in the kitchen to the garage.

It was a six car garage but I only had four cars. The other two were empty for Lulu's and Amani's cars whenever they visited. I had the black SUV I used a lot, there was this luxury all black van I had customized for my road trips. I loved that van, it was like a limousine just more spacious and more expensive. Then there was the navy blue Mercedes G-wagon that I got myself for my twenty fifth birthday and finally a sliver Audi A4 that I used when I wanted to blend in. I think this was a blend in situation so I grabbed the keys for the Audi and handed them to Isaac.

He took them from my hand and unlocked the car. We both got in and put on our seat belts. He pressed the button to open the garage doors and drove out. Soon enough we were out in traffic allowing the gps to lead us to the Gun shop that was on the outskirts of the city. I myself lived in the outskirts of the city to avoid all the noise and pollution but the gun shop was all the way on the other side so it was a long drive. Thankfully there was no much traffic so it was a smooth ride. I think the government though it was safe to put a the gun shop away from the public and in the middle of nowhere. I had no opinion there considering my zero relationship with guns. We stopped twice during the one and half our ride to get snacks and stop for a pee break. Let's just say it wasn't a good decision to have two glasses of juice for breakfast before a long ride. The drive was unplanned for though so my juice intake was justified.

Drives with Isaac were fun because he kept me entertained with all the fun stories of everything he did with his comrades in the military. It was nice to know that they had fun there too instead of missions all the time.

We arrived at the shop and parked the car outside before going in. They had a gun range a few meters away which was cool. That was the main reason I tagged along. We got in with the permits in hand and went straight to the counter. There weren't very many customers and those who were there were just looking around. There was definitely a lot of firepower in the place. I was very confused but Isaac seemed to fit right in. Behind the counter was a middle aged man with a bored look on his face.

"Welcome. How may I help you?" He greeted sitting up when we approached.

"We'd like to purchase a few guns please." I stated quickly feeling uneasy being in here.

I was the only female and all the rest were males. I knew Isaac had my back but there was no harm in being cautious.

"You need a government license for that."The salesman replied.

"Right here. "I replied handing him the two permits.

He took them from me and looked through them. He sat back down and turned to his computer to verify that they were authentic. After a few minutes he handed them back to us with a smile.

"Sorry for the wait. I had to make sure they were real. You have no idea how many people come in here with fake permits trying to buy guns." He informed us.

"It's okay we understand." I replied.

"Okay so what types of guns would you young folks like to purchase." He asked and I looked at him confused.

"Type?" I asked confused. Oh yeah there we're different types of guns. "The small ones." I replied dumbly and he shook his head at me in disbelief while Isaac laughed next to me.

I glared at him and he stopped laughing.

"Its okay boss I've got it from here." Isaac spoke up for the first time since we arrived.

I stepped aside and let the two of them talk. I heard a lot of gun related vocabulary that went in one ear and right out the other. Isaac seemed to be in his element talking about weapons and I just stood there amazed. It was definitely another side of him that made him look more attractive and macho. I better put a zip on those thoughts before I opened a door I couldn't close afterwards. Fifteen minutes later and loss of nail polish on one hand out of boredom Isaac finally settled for three guns. Don't quiz me on them but two of them were small hand guns, I think I heard the name glock 27 or 19 thrown around but I couldn't be sure. The other one was a sniper riffle. It was like one of those you see in the movies used by spies to kill people from a distance. I had no idea why he wanted that but I didn't care as long as I got to shoot something. He bought a few other items like gloves, knives, lots and lots of bullets and cases to put the guns in. I paid with my card because the sum it amounted to was pretty hefty for me to have that kind of cash on me.

We then walked out and headed towards the shooting range which was situated outside. They also had a place where you could shoot indoors but for some reason Isaac opted for us to stay outside. We showed our permits before we were shown a spot at the furthest end. There weren't any other people, it was just the two of us which was even better for me.

"I'm not going to bore you with the basics of how to handle a gun because you are too excited to start with the actual shooting to listen to me." Isaac said putting the cases down.

"You're right. Can I have my gun now?" I asked excitedly bouncing in on my feet.

"Of course but I have to show you a few things first." Isaac said.

"Do you have to?" I groaned like a child making him chuckle.

"Yes I have to." He replied.

"Okay fine." I relented knowing the sooner we got the talking part over with the sooner I could start shooting.

Isaac took out my gun and handed it to me. It's weight caught me off guard at first but it wasn't really all that heavy. I just expected it to be lighter seeing as how actors handled them with ease on TV. Isaac then showed me how to load it and release the safety. He had me repeat the whole process a few more times until he was satisfied I knew what I was doing.

"You're ready to start." Isaac declared and I smiled at him.

He handed me my noise cancelling headphones and I put them on. He'd said he didn't need any as he was already used to the noise. He then showed me the proper way to stand and hold my gun so I didn't get hurt due to recoil. After a few more minutes of that he gave me the signal to let them fly.

No matter how prepared I thought I was I definitely not ready for that first shot. It hit me so hard I moved back a step but Isaac was there to catch me. I missed obviously but I still did it.

"You good." He asked lifting the headphones a little from my ears.

"Yeah." I replied nodding.

"Okay try again." He instructed before I repositioned myself and shot again.

I still missed but this time I didn't move from my position. I was making progress. I shot a few more times missing the mark but I didn't mind because I was still having fun. I reloaded the gun after running out of bullets before taking my stance once again. I took deep calming breaths, both both eyes on the target and pulled the trigger. I didn't hear the bullet but I did see it go through the side of the face and create a hole where the ear would be.

I yelled in excitement taking off my headphones and turning to Isaac who was looking at me with a proud look.

"Did you see that?" I exclaimed happily.

"Yes good job." He replied giving me a high five.

After dwelling on my first win a few more minutes I put on my headphones again and tried again. I wasn't perfect because I did miss a few more times but I also managed to hit the target . I even hit the bullseye too and it was the most exhilarating feeling. I got tired soon though and had to put the gun down.

"That was actually good for a first timer." Isaac congratulated packing up.

"You're not going to show off your skills?" I asked observing him.

"I don't think that's a good idea." He replied.

"Why not?" I asked confused.

"I haven't done this in a while and I'm afraid if I start I won't know how to stop." He admitted.

"We have all afternoon so go all out. I'll even get you more bullets." I encouraged.

"Are you sure?" He asked me.

"Yeah of course. Don't hold back on my account." I assured him.

"Okay." He replied before unpacking the sniper rifle.

I sat back on top on a hay stack and watched him work. No wonder he was so highly decorated. Isaac was so good at what he did. He was stealthy and fast. I watched him do his thing and he never missed the bullseye even once. I definitely had hired the best of the best.

We were there for a few more hours and I even took another round at the target when my arm got enough rest. I'd definitely feel it in my muscles for the next few days but I was having too much fun to think about all that.

It was the best afternoon I'd had in a while and I owed it to Isaac.
