MARINI'S POV

I had been holding interviews for almost two hours and I felt as if I was about to explode. Interviews weren't part of my job description, or at least hadn't been ever since my company started growing and I became too busy. I had people for that now but I decided to conduct this interviews myself. Why you ask? The person I would hire would be with me all the time and I needed to be the one to choose him or her. Surprisingly I even got some female applicants too.

I was starting to regret that choice because of the people who were coming to interview. Some of them were fine but the majority looked they just came here for the fun of it. One guy actually came in, took one look at me and walked out without saying a word. Another one spoke while spitting and there was no way I would hire someone who spat on me all the time. Another guy came in drunk. It's like they kept getting worse. The ladies who came in were not qualified enough and some were just not even fit for the job. None of the people I had interviewed so far seemed capable of handling a fire arm. Even if I didn't want a bodyguard I wanted to hire someone who was actually capable of the job.

I pressed the intercom and my personal assistant knew that was the cue to let in the next person. I composed myself and unbuttoned my suit jacket. I was dressed in a blue pantsuit with a white blouse and white heels to match. My hair was loose today and I had a perfect face of make up with a silver watch and silver studs for accessories. Fridays were more relaxed days at the office in regards to the attire but I always liked to dress impeccably. No need to give people one more reason to gossip about.

I had instructed my PA to tell them to just get in directly without knocking because I wasn't in the mood to keep saying "come in".

The next candidate strutted in and walked straight to the seat in front of my desk and made himself comfortable. He looked decent enough dressed in a hoodie and jeans but there was something wrong with his cheek because it was swelling.

"Are you okay?" I asked pointing at it.

"Eeh ni kajaba tu." He replied exposing his teeth and I almost threw up.

Yes just chewing khat(miraa).

They were all brown and green and he was chewing miraa. Oh My God. What was wrong with these people? Who goes to an interview chewing miraa. That's definitely a deal breaker for me. I think I should have added no drug use of any kind to the advertisement because this was just full on disrespect.

"Thank you very much for coming. Please show yourself out." I demanded with the kindest tone I could master holding in a gag.

"Ati?" He asked.

What?

"Nimesema utoke." I demanded with a shout unable to hold it in anymore.

I've said get out.

"Aii sawa basi. Kaa na hizo maringo zako." He replied and left slamming the door making me cringe.

Okay then. You're so boastful.

"How many more applicants Joan? I'm getting tired of this crap." I asked my PA through the intercom.

"Just one more ma'am." She replied and I breathed in relief.

Let's hope they were the lucky one. I definitely didn't need any more problems and I hadn't yet met anyone who met any qualifications. Or were my standards too high? Definitely not. Maybe I should have just used a security company's service. But that's wasn't any better and they seemed like they would send me someone I didn't approve of. Well better get this over and done with. Before I could ask Joan to let in the last applicant my door swung open and my sisters came strutting in. They never came to my office unless I summoned them both. I think they just came in early to spy on me and make sure I kept my end of the deal to hire a bodyguard.

"Good morning siz." They greeted making themselves comfortable on the sofa in my office.

My office was large and its theme was white and black. My building wasn't large. It was only six floors. The ground floor was the reception, garage and a storage space. The first and second floor was human resources and the subordinate team. The third and fourth were my marketing team and the fifth and sixth floor was the executive team. My office was on the sixth floor, it was a simple design with a large desk in the middle. To my back were floor to ceiling windows with a view of Uhuru park. I had my own bathroom fully equipped with a shower. There were two chairs in front of my desk and two sofas one on either side. I had a few book shelves filled with books mostly about Kenya's landscape. My walls were filled with pictures from all my trips around the world together with my sisters. I had to personally advertise my work. I loved my office and had bought it as a rundown building and renovated it. I saw no need to rent a couple of floors of a cooperate building when I could have my own. I also didn't need so for many floors. What for? I loved what I had built.

"You guys are here? You never come here unless I ask you to."I stated obviously.

"We just wanted to visit you and make sure you did what we had agreed." Lulu replied.

"I knew it. You guys should trust me more. And besides I only have one more interview." I explained.

"We know. We just saw him outside. He's yummy and bulky. You should definitely employ him." Amani said getting lost in her head again all dreamy eyed.

"I might as well. Everyone else I've interviewed was useless." I said.

"We'll wait as you interview him." Lulu declared.

"You're going to sit in?" I asked.

"Yes." They both replied and I nodded.

I didn't see the harm in them sitting in. They could even help me decide whether he was right for the job or not.

"Okay just don't say anything." I requested and they both nodded giving me a thumbs up.

I pressed the intercom asking Joan to let him in. I sat up and waited for him to come in. I definitely hoped he was qualified because I wasn't in the mood to sit through another day of interviews. It was too draining. I took a sip of my coffee and set the cup aside. There was a slight knock on the door before he came in and closed the door behind him.

The first thing I noticed about him was his height. I was tall for a female and towered over a lot of guys but this man was almost a foot taller than me. The next thing I noticed was his build and his skin tone. He had a light skin tone and when he lifted his eyes to look at me I noticed that they were blue. Was this guy Kenyan? He looked biracial. Well I better not judge before getting to know him. He was also impeccably dressed in official wear. Blue slacks, a white button down and a grey jacket and some brown loafers. Too many colors but he pulled off that look very well. He was very good looking. Amani would say he was one of Gods perfect creations.

I noticed he was still standing respectful in front of my desk.

"Sit please but before you do are you under the influence of any drugs?" I asked not wanting this conversation to go too far.

He looked at me puzzled at my question but he answered nonetheless.

"No ma'am. I had a cup of coffee but that's about it." He replied and I motioned for him to sit which he did.

I held my hand out and he handed me a folder with his documents on it.

I took a few minutes to go through it and get a grasp of who I was about to interview. His name was Isaac. He was mixed between a Kenyan and an American which explained his skin tone and eye color. He had dual citizenship of both Kenya and the US which I liked. What captured my attention was the details of him being in the military.

"You were in the army?" I asked looking up and found him staring at me.

"Yes ma'am for ten years." He replied.

"You were?" Amani squealed next to us and I glared at her but I don't think she noticed too entranced by him.

"Yes ma'am." He repeated with a slight nod.

"Oh My God? So you've ridden in a tank like those we see in movies?" Amani asked excitedly.

He chuckled slightly and Amani swooned earning an eye roll for me.

"Yes I have but it's not the same as you see in the movies. "He replied.

"And you've shot one of those huge guns that makes everything blow up. "Amani asked in childhood glee.

"Yes. "He replied.

Amani was about to ask something else when I interrupted her.

"You can interrogate him in your own time Amani. So Mr. Mutua, any PTSD I should worry about? "I asked.

"No ma'am."He replied firmly and I nodded.

Isaac was actually perfect for the job. He had all the qualifications due to his background in the military and he was the right age.

"That's good. So this job entails you being my personal bodyguard. Do you have any issues against that? "I asked and at the mention of that he actually seemed relieved.

"No I don't ma'am." He affirmed.

"You'll basically be my shadow so that means living with me. "I said with a slight cringe remembering that single detail.

It would be so weird living with another person in my house but I'd get used to it. I think I should have just gone for the chip.

"Not a problem."He replied.

"Okay good."I replied kind of hoping he would say no."Anything I should know about before we discuss this any further? "I asked looking at my sisters who were giving me grins and thumbs up.

"I have a dog. He's an all black German Shepherd."He replied and that captured my attention.

I had no issue with pets but I had a lot of expensive items in my house that were easily breakable.

"Is he house trained?"I asked.

"Yes he is. He's a very well behaved dog."He explained and I nodded.

"Well as long as he doesn't break anything or destroy things I think we're good."I replied.

"Kim is nothing like that."He assured me.

"Everything seems good and I think you're qualified for the job. Here is the contract for you to go through and if you like it we can sign and discuss terms."I said handing him a copy of the work contract which he took." I'll give you time to go through it. You can use one of the conference rooms. Joan will show you." I instructed buzzing Joan in who came in a few seconds later.

"Please show Mr. Mutua to a conference room."I instructed and he got up following Joan out who held the door open for him.

"He's perfect. "Amani gushed as soon as the door was cold taking the seat Isaac had recently occupied.

"He's too old for you."I informed her.

"You marry him then so he stays in the family forever."She replied.

"Maybe hiring him is a bad idea."I realized.

"No it's not. Amani gets crushes all the time but it'll fade as soon as the next guy comes along. You should hire him because he's actually perfect for the job." Lulu reasoned taking the extra seat in front of my desk.

"He does seem like he'll be a good fit and I also like that he has a dog. I've always wanted a pet."I replied.

"Then it's settled. He's hired."Lulu declared and I nodded in agreement.

"Yes!"Amani exclaimed excitedly but we just ignored her.

"Okay fill me in on what you guys are up to before he comes back."I requested them and they both began telling me about their plans and current work.

Lulu had studied Agro-chemistry at the university and instead of working in a lab she travelled around the world helping farmers in their agriculture. Amani was studying international relations and would come to work with me after she graduated. I always loved hearing what was going on in their lives because I lived vicariously through them. They were more outgoing than I was and even though I was a social person I liked to keep my circle small. My sisters were my life and I would do anything for them. Even if it included hiring a bodyguard. As long as they were happy then I was happy too.

Half an hour later there was a knock on the door and Isaac came back in when he heard me say come in. I liked how good mannered he was.

He handed me the documents and stood straight next to the table a good distance away from my sisters and me.

"I see you've already signed it meaning you like all the terms?"I asked.

"Yes ma'am."He confirmed.

"Great."I replied grabbing a pen and signing my part too putting us in a legally binding contract for a year.

I hope that was enough time for my sisters to get off my back. Six months would have been too little to satisfy them so I had settled for a year. It stated that after a year we would evaluate his performance and if I was pleased he could continue working for me and if I wasn't then I'd let him go. I'm sure I'd think of a reason to fire him then or give him work elsewhere, like head of security for the whole company. He seemed like a good guy and I didn't want to let him go for no reason at all and leave him jobless. I know it was hard getting a job in this country.

There were other things that allowed me to fire him before that period elapsed like slacking off, use of drugs and a few more and I really hoped he wouldn't do anything to make me break the contract because I didn't want to go through all this trouble again.

"Then it's official. Welcome to the family."I said with a genuine smile on my face.

"Thank you ma'am."He replied returning my smile and I think I heard Amani let out a muffled squeal. I really hoped she would get over her crush soon.

"Joan will give you a badge and show you around the office. She'll also answer any questions you have. You can come by my place tomorrow afternoon so you can get settled in and begin work on Monday . Is that okay with you or do you need more time to settle your business elsewhere?"I asked.

"No ma'am."He replied.

"Good. See you tomorrow. Have a good day. "I said.

"Thank you and have a good day too, all of you." He said and excused himself before walking out of the office and locking the door behind him.

Looks like I've got myself a bodyguard. I hope the next year passes by quick or at least we get along so I don't see him as a nuisance but more as a friend who always has to be there with me. Lord help me please. I prayed needing Gods guidance over the coming months.
