Song for this chapter: Incomplete

- James Bay

"Oh my gosh, how did this happen Lyds?" The nurse questions when she lays her eyes on the nasty bruise on Lydia's cheek. Her eyes flicker over to me and she gasps, pulling me over to the bed.

"The bitches did it, Angela." Lydia huffs, taking a seat on the chair in the corner of the room.

"I hate those three girls, bullies all of them." The nurse or 'Angela' shakes her head in disapproval. "Are you new?" She asks me.

"Yes, Miss. I'm Layla Greene." I introduce and she smiles at me before letting out a chuckle.

"You can call me Angela. Any friend of Lydia's can call me Angela." She tells me and I nod my head. She hands me a wet tissue and tells me to wipe my nose, to get rid of the dried blood on it. "Where does it hurt the most?"

"My head," a surge of uneasiness comes over me and I feel the urge to throw up, "yeah definitely my head." I say as I rush over to the bin in the corner of the room and be sick. Lydia rushes over and pulls my hair back quickly and rubs my back in efforts to comfort me.

"That's so gross." I mutter, scrunching up my face as the taste and smell of vomit is recognised by my senses.

"Wash your mouth with this and we'll call your parents to pick you up after I've bandaged you up." Angela says, as she hands me a plastic cup of water. I slowly nod my head, but then realise it's my dad's first day of work today too and he can't come and get me.

"No! I'm feeling a whole lot better-"

"I'll take her home on the way because I'm starting to feel really lightheaded." Lydia groans and raises a hand to her head. My eyes widen with concern and I begin to get off the bed to check on her.

"If you're feeling lightheaded, you can't drive." Angela says and Lydia hangs her head.

"We'll find my brother, he has a study period now." Lydia sighs.

"Cool. You go and ask him while I patch up your friend."

"How do you know she's my friend?" Lydia smirks and I scowl at her.

"Yeah we're not friends... look at her." I mumble looking Lydia up and down with a judgemental look on my face. She opens her mouth in overreacted shock.

"Shithead." She mumbles and I grin at her as she leaves the room to go and find Myles, grumbling as she does so.

"She's been through a lot of bullying at this school, I'm glad she finally has a friend to stand up for her."

"Did her brother not help her before?"

"I don't think he knew, because they hurt her when he wasn't around and Lydia ... she told no one, not even me when I was patching up her bruises. These girls are nasty but they're evil to Lydia. It's not just words they use like they do on everyone else, they physically hurt her and no one can do anything because Kenzie's mother is an important investor in the school, and while Kenzie never gets her hands dirty, I know that she tells them to." I am seething with anger when she finishes telling me how much they hurt Lyds and how they just get away with it. Well, we'll see about how much longer they get away with it when I'm here.

"I'm not gonna let anything happen to her, they aren't ever going to touch her again." I say and she nods her head.

"I believe you."

Lydia comes back in the room with Grayson, Myles and Reece trailing behind her.

"Lucky me I found three of them, they all wanted to see if you were okay," She says and then turns to Grayson as she points to me, "see, you've seen her, she's fine, now buzz off."

"Lydia." Myles scolds.

"What? I just thought he would rather be with his girlfriend right now, I'm sure she's really upset that I threatened her after she allowed my best friend to get hit."

"You know those hits weren't meant for Layla-"

"And that makes it okay?" I cut in, not liking how he seems to still be praising her. I would've cut her off by now.

"She's not like that with me." He defends her, eyebrows scrunching up in irritation.

"So just because she's not like that with you makes it okay that she treats other people like that?" I question. "Lydia doesn't deserve that and as her friend, surely you'd want to put a stop to the bullying?"

"Lydia isn't my friend. She's my friends little sister." He retorts and from the corner of my eye, I see Lydia frown. "And of course I want to make it stop, I've already said that I'll speak with her, she's just going through a lot right now."

"You're an asshole." I mutter, before turning to Lydia, "was my brother out there?" I question and she nods her head timidly. "Shit." I mumble and slowly take steps to go outside of the nurses office. "Thank you Angela." I say with a smile. Grayson tries to help me as I limp a little out of the room due to my wooziness but I move out of his way and get Myles' help instead, who happily supplies it, wrapping his arm around my waist lifting my weight he drags me out of the room.

When my brother sees me, he walks forward and picks me up, "I was so worried,"

"I'm fine." I tell him softly.

"You weren't last time. Don't do that ever again." He says and I nod my head. "Do you need a ride home?"

"Do you have a lesson now?" I ask and he nods his head.

"Then no, Lydia's brother will take us as it's his study period now." I inform him as he puts me down, he then looks towards the boys and walks over to them.

"I'm Connor." He greets, holding his hand out for them to shake, they all do happily and introduce themselves. Connor then messes up Lydia's hair. "Hey Lyds."

"You little shit, get back here and I'll beat your ass." She calls, my brother just turns around with a smirk on his face.

"You might need to strap a dildo to yourself then."

My face scrunches up in absolute disgust, while Lydia blushes bright red and all three boys start howling with laughter.

"That is absolutely gross." I mutter, scowling at his back as he walks to his class. The boys continue to laugh and I turn my scowl to them. "Stop it, it's not funny." I glare at them.

Once they've finally stopped laughing, Lydia wraps her arms around me and we walk out together with the boys trailing behind.

"Are you okay?" I ask her.

"Yes. I'm more than okay. No one has stood up for me before, so thank you." She says and I nod my head. She doesn't need to thank me.

"Wait." She exclaims and turns around. "I'm not your friend?" She questions Grayson and his eyes widen.

"Lydia-." He tries to explain but Lydia's eyes only narrow further.

"No, shut up. You said I was your friend's little sister. Reece? Am I your friend?"

"You're more than his friend." I smirk.

"Shut it."

"Yes, you are my friend." Reece says, smirking too.

"Lyds-" Grayson starts, but Lydia cuts him off.

"No! Look at me! Look at Layla! She got hurt trying to defend me from your girlfriend."

"She's not my girlfriend-" he starts but Lyds interrupts him again.

"I don't care. Look at us! This is what the girl you're fucking did to us. Layla was right. It shows a lot about you, because you hang out with her. Because she's a bad person, Gray." Lydia says, and my heart hurts for her, I look to Grayson waiting for his response.

"I barely know Layla. Of course I care that she's hurt, of course I do. But you have to understand, I've known her my whole life." He mumbles, Lydia stumbles back almost like she's been physically hurt, and my eyes widen in question to whether she's okay, she just nods her head.

"Your whole life? And you still haven't discovered that she's horrible, wow, you must be blind then." Lydia says and then pulls on her brother's sleeve, "can you drop us home? The nurse ordered Layla to go home because she threw up." Myles just nods his head and smiles, taking his car keys out from his pocket and walking towards us. Grayson pulls me back while they walk off and I give him a fake smile when I've turned to face him.

"Please understand, I do care about you and I'm sorry you got hurt-"

"You know even if we're not your friends, what she did is still wrong and the fact you think it makes any difference whether we're friends with you or not to what she did, makes it even worse. You should probably check on your girlfriend though, I'm sure Lydia's words really hurt her and you know since you've known her for so long, you'd be good support I guess." I interrupt, rolling my eyes.

"She's going through a lot."

"Just like the slut you are."
"I wish you were dead instead of her."
"I'm sorry, please forgive me. I'm a horrible friend. I'm so sorry."

"Aren't we all?" I mumble, looking into his eyes. His widen, almost like he saw everything that happened in my own eyes. He tried to reach for me but I speed away, in desperate efforts to catch up to Lydia and Myles.

"Layla!" Grayson calls from behind me, but I don't think he deserves a reply. I don't care about his reluctance to defend me, but Lydia. She deserves every inch of protection from anyone because she's precious and the fact he's being so blasé about everything is ridiculous. What a dickhead.
