Irma Pince's words still playing in his head as he walked out from the office.

He can't believe that it was that easy for someone else to see his flaws. He knew he has flaws but he never thought that anyone would figure him out that fast. Did he really put his guard down around the witch because he trusted Headmistress and his uncle that much?

Maybe he should've been more careful. He need to know that, even if his uncle trust these group of people, doesn't mean that he can let his guard down. Alex guessed that he should be thanking Mdm Pince for pointing that out for him. It was definitely careless of him. Letting out a huge sighs, he shut his eyes and let his mind re-focus back on the case in hand.

Now that he have the information he needs from the headmistress, he must worked fast in order to identify the killer on the loose. Looking around the almost empty library, he finally saw a place by the corner of the library, near the tall window. It was secluded, a perfect place for someone who prefer quiet time or-- couples, for some snogging session.

Placing his bag on the chair next to him, Alex took out the files that contained information of students and professors that currently inside Hogwarts. Then he took out a few parchments and start writing the title on top of the parchments.

HOGWARTIANS | NON-HOGWARTIANS

He stares at the first page of the files on some random first year, grinning excitedly for his portfolio. Alex smiles at the pictures.

It reminds him of his own excitement during his First Year entering Moxarths Academy. The way his uncle kept on popping up in almost all of his classes at every chances he gets until Principal Julia had to ban him from entering the school ground, except for her office.

It was an absolute experience for him, growing up with his uncle. He often wonder how his life would turn out if both his parents are still with him? Would he still be an aspiring detective as he is right now? Or perhaps, something like-- well, an aspiring professor maybe?

Alex shook his head as he stifle a laughter at his own thought and proceed on his tasks in hand.

****

Stretching his arms up, he let out a huge yawn.

He finally done categorising all the students accordingly to their blood status, traits and academic performance, in which has bring the number of possible victims to 10 witches.

Ruffling his hair, slightly feeling distressed, the young veela continues on staring at his own notes, thinking of ways for him to make the number decreased into six--

SIX.

VICTIMS.

Something clicked in his head that he quickly dug his bag for his notebook. Flipping the pages fast, he finally stopped at one particular page where he jotted down the names of the previous victims from the most recent case;

Chantel Keesler, Angelica Huo, Margaret Wilson, Enma Xavier, Imelda Salvador--

No. No, no way. Alex go through his notes once more.

Chantel Keesler, one. Angelica Huo, two. Margaret Wilson, three. Enma Xavier, four and Imelda Salvador...five--

Five names, means five victims. But isn't there suppose to be six of them all together? Or did he just imagining the numbers? Like, it's better if the numbers are lower but-- No, no, there must be something else. Something that he might have missed.

With that  in his thought, Alex threw all his things into his bag and decided to ask his uncle for confirmation.

****

"--No. And I am veryyy sorry because Mr Evcans really unavailable for the time being. He's currently in an important meeting with the Aurors,"

Alex groaned, "BUt this is important, can-- can you like, tell him that his nephew's are looking for him? I'm sure he'll--"

The witch let out a loud breath through her nose, looking slightly annoyed. "I-- I can't. Have a good day."

And the fire-call was cut off.

"FUuuuUck!-"

"Manners, young Evcans," McGonagall said.

Alex turn his head at her fast, suddenly remembered that he was currently in the Headmistress office. A blushed crept on his face as he looked down, slightly guilty, "Sorry, ma'am. I-- didn't mean to cuss,..." said he.

McGonagall put a small smile of assurance on her face, "It's all fine-- But if I may ask, how urgent do you need to talk to your uncle about the matter?"

Alex brushed his fingers through his messy locks.

"Alexander?"

"'M sorry, I just--," Sighs. "It's uh, as soon as possible, if can.. sorry," he muttered his last words. He was still occupied with the fact that he missed the most obvious clue for the case.

The missing victim.

There must be a reason of why his uncle didn't point that out during their first meeting about the case. But what? Did he wanted to test Alex's skills, wanting to see how observant can Alex be? Or maybe he, he knew the victim is still alive and that she was under the protection program?

Alex hoped it was the latter. Because if his uncle was testing his observation skills, guessed that Alex still lack in that area. He made a huge mistake.

"I'll get contact with a friend of mine, and see if he can do something to make it possible for you and Dorian to meet soon," the headmistress said.

Alex pressed his lips together and meekly nodded at that.

"For the time being, I suggest you to get some rest, Alex. I'm sure that no one can work well while feeling tense." A small concerned smile curved over the headmistress's lips.

Alex forced a smile on his face. He chuckles dryly, "Yeah, I guess-- I'll go and get some fresh air,"

"Please do,"

"Thank you, ma'am..." and with a small nods, Alex left the office.

****

A puff of smoke escape from his lips as he crouch down next to the rubbles near the Black Lake. Alex let out a sighs. Flicking the spent ashes to the ground, he took another puff while staring into the lake, while letting his thought wandered.

Gasped, "There you are!"

Alex cough the smoke out at the familiar voice speaking to him from behind. He quickly threw his cigarette butts to the ground and stepped on it, Shit, shit shit.

Puffing the last smoke out from his mouth, he turn to the person. "OOH, heyyy-- Ginny!" he tries to pretend that he did nothing wrong.

Ginny scowled at him. Alex could literally feel his sweat beats roll over his back. He wonder if she did saw him smoking out here.

Ginny suddenly sniff and looking slight discomfort as she rubbed her finger over her nose, "Why do I smell--"

"Um, what's bring you here anyway?" Alex quickly asked, trying to divert her attention away from the cigarettes smell.

As if the question reminds her of her reason to look for the wizard, Ginny tapped her palm over her forehead, "Ah yes! You weren't at the Care of Magical Creature class earlier." she said, "I was looking for you all over because I thought that you might get lost somewhere,"

Alex felt guilty for troubling her like that, but he have to, "Sorry--" is all that he can say.

Ginny breath through her nose, "S'okay, I guess. But where have you been though?" she asked, curious.

"I uh..." Alex scratched the back of his ear, looking everywhere but the fiery witch in front of her. He felt like she would know right away that he's trying to find excuses if he's making eye contact with her, "I was looking for a way to the class but um-- I found the library instead,"

At least, the last bits wasn't a lie though.

Ginny scoffs in disbelief, "And let me guess-- you decided to go into the library and skipped class?"

Alex just shrugged. Hopefully it was acceptable.

Ginny let out a loud sighs, "You know what--- whatever. You're not the first one who did that anyway," she finally said. "Come on, let's head back to the dorm,"

"Huh, mind telling me who else did that?" Alex asked as they were heading back to the building.

"You wouldn't believe me if I tell you,"

"Try me,"

"Nah," Ginny shook her head, "You'll find out soon enough," she grinned. Alex arched his brows as his curiosity perks at that. So this person must've been skipping class often to go to the library.

Guess he will find out soon.
