Dean suffered through his morning classes before heading to lunch. He shouldered his bag higher on his back before walking through the wooden cafeteria doors. Noises and different smells overwhelmed Dean's senses. Dean scrunched his nose at the smell of strong perfume as he walked past a group of girls. The girls smiled at him so he gave them a half smile and wink to keep up appearances The line for food wasn't that long so Dean didn't have to wait long to grab a burger and fries. After paying for his lunch, Dean searched around the overcrowded cafeteria to find what tables Jake and the team claimed this year. After his eyes skimmed over the room two times, he finally spotted the group of teens wearing letterman jackets. Dean navigated his way through groups of teens with powerful perfumes or body odor before making it to the table where Jake was. Dean put his tray down on the table in front of the seat across from Jake. Slinging his bag on the back of his chair, Dean sat down. Before Dean could even speak to his friends, Sam stopped by his table. "Dean, do you think it will be alright if someone comes over to work on a project after school?" Sam asked, shaking his hair out of his eyes. Dean nodded as he took a bite of his burger. Swallowing the bite, Dean asked, "Who's coming over? What class project?" Sam shifted his weight on his feet before saying, "I got put in junior's chemistry even though I'm a freshman. I got partnered with Castiel Novak." Jake sputtered from across the table. "Castiel? That little freak?" The teens at the table chuckled at Jake's exclamation. Sam's face hardened and he glared at Jake. "There is nothing wrong with Castiel. He's not a freak." Jake was about to retort when Dean spoke first. "Yeah, that's fine, Sam. I'll give you guys a ride." Sam nodded and went to walk away but Dean stopped him by saying, "Do you have your lunch money dad gave you?" Sam rolled his eyes. "Yes, Dean. It's right here." Sam's eyes widened as he frantically started searching his pockets. Dean chuckled at his brother's antics before handing him some money. Sam gave him an embarrassed smile, a blush staining his cheeks as he pocketed the money. "Thanks, Dean." Sam said before scurrying away. "Your brother needs to learn how high school works or it won't end well for him." Jake snarled. Dean's face hardened as he put his hands on the table to lean closer to Jake. "You'll keep your mouth shut about Sam and leave him alone, you hear me Jake." The table went quiet as they watched the interaction between Jake and Dean. Jake nodded and said, "I'm just saying. He'll get beat up." Dean sat normally back in his seat. "If someone beats him up, they'll have to deal with me." The teens at the table carried on with their conversations and Dean continued eating. Soon, Dean found his eyes wandering around the cafeteria. His eyes landed on a black haired, blue eyed boy; Castiel. Dean found himself unable to look away even as Castiel met his eyes. Castiel's expression was curious. Dean was almost mesmerized by Castiel's eyes alone. He was shook out of his stupor by Jake's voice. "What are you staring at?" Dean snapped his head towards Jake. "Nothing. Just lost in thought." Jake looked confused but nodded back anyway before returning to his previous conversation. Dean glanced back to Castiel's table and was weirdly disappointed to find it empty.
