April
I spend most of the day feeling crapy for what I said. I try to look for Regina so that I can apologize but I can't find her anywhere. I shouldn't have said that. People still talk about the photos of her that were posted last year when she was caught with one of the football players. I new  it was a sensitive topic but I still said it anyway.  Even with the way Regina was acting I should have been the one to take the high road.

The last bell rings and I pack up to leave.   Outside the classroom I see Keith waiting for me. He smiles when he sees me.

"Hey April." He greets

"Hi"

"What's wrong?"

Keith always could tell when something was bothering me. I shrug not wanting to tell him.

"Is it Aden. Did he say something to you?" Keith asked getting upset.

"No it wasn't him. It was me. I said something I shouldn't have."

"Does this have anything to do with Regina?" Keith asked.

"How did you know?"

"I saw her storm off during lunch."

I almost forgot that Keith was at lunch today. He probably saw everything. I sigh. There's no point in hiding it now.

"I may have hinted around about her sleeping with that football player under the bleacher last week." I say.

Keith shrugs. "I don't see the problem. Everyone knows she'll sleep with anyone who wants her."

I frown.  It still doesn't fell right.

"Seriously April sometimes you're too nice. Some people just don't deserve it. Regina's a bitch. She tried to clam Tray, tried to rape her."

"What?"

I hadn't heard about that part. The only thing I knew was that someone saw her trying to get it on with a guy. No one ever said anything about rape.

"Yeah, that's what she told the teachers but then she couldn't prove it so they let it go. She almost got him kicked out of the school and off of the team."

"Did he do it?"

"Of course, not. Tray has women throwing themselves at him left and right. He didn't need to force himself on some emo chick."

I don't say anything. I've meet Tray and he seems nice but I don't know him. I do know that it doesn't matter what a guy looks like if he's a monster on the inside he's capable of doing anything. If what Regina said was true that pretty much makes me the worst for bringing it up today.

"Did you sleep with her?" I ask out of curiosity.

"Hell naw. I make a habit of steering clear of girls with issues. I learned my lesson after crazy ass Vicky tried to fake a pregnancy on me." Keith said.

I do remember her. She set  a burning box with all of Keith's stuff in front of our house last summer. I'd told him not to mess with her but being the horny boy that Keith was he didn't listen to me.

"Come on, April. I'm sure Regina is alright. We got some things to pick up before we go home." Keith says.

"I told Jamal I wasn't riding with him and I meant it."

Even if Aden was mad at me I wasn't just about to forget about Jamal. Plus it had been kind of weird the last time we talked. I didn't want to be around him just yet.

"Jamal won't be there. He got held up so he gave me his keys and told me I could drive you home." Keith said holding up a pair of car keys.

"Seriously?"

Jamal never let us touch his baby. Beyoncé was strictly off limits. I wonder what made him change his mind.

"Yeah, he's going to catch a ride home with one of his friends. So what do you say, want to be my road dog? We can stop for ice cream and pizza." Keith said shaking the keys.

I smile. This is why Keith is so popular. He knows how to make the people around him feel better. He was the life of the party wherever he went.

"Can I drive?" I say holding out my hand.

Keith lowers his keys but quickly snatches them back. "Not a chance."

I push his shoulder and laugh. We walk out into the parking lot. My eyes immediately go to Aden parking spot but his not there. His probably already left. I feel a bit disappointed.

"Come on April." Keith calls.

I follow him to the car. Apparently mom wanted us to do some grocery shopping for dinner tonight. We pick up everything on her list. I die laughing when Keith tries to pick up a chick at the store only to have her body builder boyfriend show up. He's so big that he even makes Keith look small.

"She could have said she had a boyfriend." Keith grumbles, which only makes me laugh harder. It does his ego good to get rejected every now and then.

We make it back home fifteen minutes later. I drop the stuff off in the kitchen. Mom has already started cooking. I smile at her. People are always saying we look like twins but she much prettier than I am. She's on the thick side of life too but it looks better on her. She's also a major girly girl. She still ties her hair back with pretty pink bows.

"Hey sweetie, have you seen Jamal?" She asked.

"Nope."

"Hmm, he must be out with his friends. I think there's something troubling him."

"Mmh" I say opening my phone. I wonder if I should try to text Aden or wait until tomorrow. He might not want to talk to me just yet.

"April are you listening to me?" Mom ask.

I look up. "Yeah I was just checking something."

"April." Mom says with a sigh. "I don't know what going on but he's your brother. You three are a family. I expect you all to look after each other."

"Jamal does not need anyone protecting him, mom"

"You'd be surprised April. Sometimes the strong silent ones are the ones that need the most protection."

She really doesn't know who her son is. I don't blame her. For a long time I didn't either. I think about way Jamal acted today. Then again maybe I still don't know who he really is.
