The Rest of the School Day

I hear the bell ring after what felt like a century, but it's only actually been an hour. Still sitting in the bathroom, I think about my next class, biology. The packet that I guessed on everything, the rude teacher, Kimmy and her friends; there was no way I was going to that class.

Sitting on the floor of the dirty bathroom at your school is no fun. I'd almost rather be in biology, if it wasn't for Kimmy. Even thinking about her face made me angry and depressed. My thoughts are interrupted when I see my phone light up out of the corner of my eyes.

A post from Kimmy on instagram. I can only hope it's not about me. I slide on the notification and it brings me to her new post.

'Hmm. I could have sworn I saw a girl named Ellie walk through the halls this morning. She wasn't in first period though! What a shame. We were going to have some fun in the locker room together. If anyone sees that slut, let me know.'

Tears well up in my eyes and I bury my head in my hands, dropping my phone next to me on the floor. I couldn't help but feel like the rest of the year was going to be this way. There was no way I was going to tell Harry; he's so busy, and it's embarrassing having so many people hate you. I should be able to stick up for myself, but I'm weak.

The rest of second period passes very slowly and I feel a wave of relief wash over me as the bell rings. I was going to lunch with all my friends, and no Kimmy. I grab my backpack and walk to the sinks to fix myself up in the mirror.

I comb through my hair with my fingers and reapply some concealer before rushing out the door. On my way to lunch I hear people whispering and pointing at me, but I keep my head down, trying my best to ignore them.

I get to the lunch room and go to my usual table, where all my friends were. They were all talking, but immediately stopped when they noticed me. I sit down next to Kyle and rest my head on his shoulder. "Hi, El. You feeling a little better?" He asks while rubbing his hand gently up and down on my arm.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I say, clearly lying, but they seem to have bought it. "I don't want to talk about it, really."

"Well, then let's talk about something else. How about our plans this weekend?" Claire mentions. I appreciate her changing the subject.

Kyle squeezes my arm a little when Claire mentions weekend plans, and I'm reminded of our date tomorrow. I look at at Kyle with a small, genuine smile on my face and he returns the same look.

"El and I have our first official date tomorrow," Kyle says. I could hear the excitement in his voice, which made me even more excited. Even though I have no clue what we are going to do, I knew it was going to be one of the best nights of my life.

"Ooh. And where will you be taking our friend, Mr. Kyle?" Rachel jokes.

Kyle shakes his head. "Can't tell you. It's top secret information," he says and laughs.

"I see. Well, Ellie, you are going to have to fill us in on the details later," Rachel says.

I nod my head and smile. "Of course I will," I says, feeling nothing but excitement for tomorrow.

Everyone continues eating and we talk about random things for a while. "Hey, why aren't you eating?" Kyle whispers to me.

I look him in they eyes and spit out the best lie I could think. "I ate it in the bathroom. I got hungry."

Kyle turns so he's facing me even more than he was before and grabs my hands. "We're going to talk about the whole Kimmy situation later. I don't want you to hold in all your thoughts all the time, got it?" He says seriously.

I nod my head. "Okay. Just not today or tomorrow. I don't want to be a mess for our first date," I say with a smile.

He nods his head. "Of course, El. Whenever you want to," he says.

The bell rings, signaling the end of lunch, and I walk with Ryan to history after saying my goodbyes to everyone else.

When we arrive at history we sit down in out assigned seats. There are a few people looking at me, but Ryan gets my attention away from them when he begins to draw on my paper that we picked up at the beginning of class. "Hey! What the hell is that?" I giggle.

He doesn't say anything and focuses on his drawing. I continue to watch him until he removes his hand from the paper. "Ta-da!" He says, looking very prideful of his work.

"What is it?" I says with a smile. It looked like a girl and and snake mixed together.

"It's Kimmy in her true form, snake," he says.

I laugh and begin to draw and picture of Kimmy on his paper. For the rest of class we just draw random stuff on each others papers. The bell rings and we both say goodbye.

When I walk into the guitar room I am immediately pulled into someone's arms. "Hey there, El," the person, who I recognize as Kyle, say. "How was history?" He asks.

I let out a small giggle. "I'll tell you when you put me down," I say.

"Ugh, you are so demanding," Kyle jokes and puts me down on one on the chairs.

"I know," I say with a smile. He rolls his eyes and grabs Claire, Rachel, and me a guitar. We form the same circle as we did last class and begin to talk.

"So? History?" Kyle says, reminding me to tell him about my previous class.

"Oh, yeah. It was good. Ryan and I just drew pictures of Kimmy the whole class," I say and get out my paper. "Here you go," I say handing it to him.

Kyle laughs and shows the drawing to the other girls. "Well, you and Ryan are very talented," he says handing the paper back to me.

"Why, thank you," I say and shove the part back in my bag.

We spend the rest of class playing guitar until the bell rings. "We'll meet you out front!" Claire says. I nod my head and walk to my locker where Kyle meets me a few minutes later.

"Got everything?" He asks as I close my locker and put my backpack on.

"I hope so," I say. He nods and we walk out front to the rest of my friends. I say goodbye to Kyle and the rest of us begin to walk home.
