The locker

As usual, I wake up to a hand shaking my shoulder. I groan as the thoughts of last night come rushing back. Hopefully no one would say anything about it. I mean, how many people could have actually seen and read her post? I'm probably just overreacting.

"Wake up, sleepyhead. Time for school," Harry says. I can tell he just woke up from his raspy morning voice. I groan again in reply. "Come on. You don't want to be late on your fourth day of school!" he attempts to persuade me.

"Okay, okay. I'm coming," I mumble into my pillow. I sit up and Harry walks downstairs. I felt even more tired than yesterday; I almost felt sick. Without worrying too much about it, I stand up to go get changed. I put on medium denim Mom jeans, a belt, and a tan sweater.

When I arrive downstairs I see that Harry is, as usual, sitting at his normal seat. "You're up! What do you want to breakfast, love?" He asks me.

"I'll have an apple," I say while walking over to the bowl of apples and picking out the smallest one I could find. "I'm not very hungry for some reason," I add, trying to make myself more believable.

"Alright Love, just make sure to bring a snack or something in case you get hungry," Harry says. I nod my head and throw a granola bar into my bag. I wasn't going to eat it. It has 150 calories! But I wanted Harry to not worry about me all day.

I sit down and begin to eat my apple, thinking about how today was going to play out. I know I tried to convince myself that no one would have seen it before, but it's becoming more and more unbelievable as time goes on. I mean, Kimmy is the most popular girl in school. Everyone follows her. Today is going to suck.

"You okay, love? Looks like you have something on your mind," Harry says while sipping his cup of tea.

"No," I say, a little too quickly as I snap out my trance. "I mean, no, sorry, Dad." Ugh, I hope he doesn't say anything.

"Alrighty. Just tired?" He asks. I nod my head as I take another bite into my apple.

The doorbell rings a few minutes later, so I get up and put on my backpack. "Bye, Dad. See you after school," I say and hug Harry.

He hugs me back and says, "I love you too, love." I release from the hug and walk outside to meet my friends.

"Hey, Ellie," Ryan says. I can tell that they're all worried; the whole walk to school is really awkward.

"Hi," I say with a small smile. We begin to walk and no one says anything for a while until Claire chimes in.

"Ellie, are you okay? We know it has to be pretty upsetting to have someone spread rumors about you. And believe me when I say that we are all just as upset as you. Kimmy has no right to be mean to you like that," she say.

I sigh. "I know. And I'm sorry I'm not talking. I just am really angry and worried about what people will say," I admit. "I'm scared Kyle is going to think the rumors are true," I say that barely above a whisper, but my friends still hear me.

"Hey, you know Kyle. He would never be mad at you for something like this. And if he is, then he would at least let you explain," Evan says, trying his best to comfort me. Everyone else nods their heads in agreement.

"Thanks, you guys. I'm probably just overreacting," I say as we arrive at the school.

"You're welcome, Ellie. See ya later," Rachel says and we all go out separate ways to our classes.

As I'm walking through the halls I can already see people giving me dirty looks. I wanted to yell at them and tell them nothing Kimmy said was true, but I knew no one would believe me over her, so I remained silent.

After what seemed like forever, I finally reach my locker and see Kyle ripping off some papers on my locker door. "Hey!" I say and run over to him. "What was that?" I ask, worriedly. It was probably Kimmy and her friends.

"Hi, El," Kyle says, ignoring my question and going in for a hug.

I pull away from the hug and look at him, his hands still wrapped around my back. "Kyle, what was it? Just tell me," I say desperately.

"El... I don't think it's important. It's gone now. Don't worry about it," he says and rubs my back.

"Kyle! Show me the papers. I deserve to know what Kimmy is saying about me!" I say, clearly flustered. Tears brim my eyes and I run my hands through my hair.

"Don't cry, baby. It's okay. I'll show you, if you want. I want you to know that I don't believe any of it, alright?" Kyle says. I nod my head and he hands me the crumpled up papers that were originally on my locker. I slowly unfold them and read the papers:

'The sluts locker is right here'
'Ellie is a whore'
'Bitch'

There were a handful more, but I decide not to open them. I grab all the papers I can carry and throw them in the trash and then run to the bathroom. I can here Kyle calling for me, but I ignore him. When I get in the bathroom and go into a stall, lock the door, and start sobbing.

I hear the bell ring for first period, gym. Kimmy and her friends were in that class, so I can't go. I feel bad for ditching Kyle, but I don't think I can handle Kimmy today.

I check my phone and see a few texts from Kyle. He tells me that everything will be okay and that he would be in first period if I needed him. I clear the notifications from my phone, not bothering to respond.
