(Song: I'm With You by Vance Joy)

HARRY'S POV

Quickly, I bend down on my knees next to Ellie. I grab her body and bring her close to me. It thankfully doesn't look like she was hurting herself, she just is really upset.

"Shh," I coo in her ear. I bring my hand to her upper back and rub it in small circles.

Ellie's breathing seems to be really heavy, which worries me a lot. "Ellie, baby, I need you to calm down," I say, concerned. "Can you take deep breaths with me?"

I inhale and exhale, hoping to get Ellie to do the same thing. It looks like she's trying, but it's not working too well. She starts wheezing and crying more.

I squeeze my arms tighter around her, not knowing what else to do. "El, I need you to communicate with me?" I say. "Has this ever happened to you before?" I ask.

She nods her head once.

"Okay, Do you think I should call the doctors? Is that what you normally do?" I ask.

She shakes her head and grips tightly onto my shirt as if the moment she let go she'd be taken away from me.

I do have to admit, I feel a little bit better knowing this isn't something she calls the doctor for. I don't want anything seriously bad to happen to her.

"Can you try to breathe with me, love?" I ask, taking a deep breath in and out. Hopefully she can't tell how worried I am right now. That would only make her more anxious.

Ellie nods her head and takes a shaky breath. "Good job, honey," I applaud her. I gently take her hands from my shirt and hold them, knowing it will make her feel more comfortable.

"You're okay, you're okay," I coo as she calms down some more.

Once her breathing is steady again, I pull Ellie into a hug. "Oh, Ellie," I say. "Are you feeling okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine," she whispers. I hope she's telling the truth.

"What just happened?" I ask her, rubbing her back with my hand up and down.

She hesitates before speaking. "I had... a panic attack," she says, mumbling the last part.

"Do you know what caused it, love?" I ask. I feel bad for asking so many questions when she's clearly still a little distressed, but I need to know more information.

Ellie doesn't answer me, but I know she heard me. She just doesn't want me to know, I guess.

"El, I know you heard me," I say. "Come on, you can tell me."

"I... I don't know," she says.

Lie.

"Yes, you do. I'm not going to make fun of you, or laugh at you, or tell anyone anything, okay? I just need you to tell me," I say, continuing to hug her.

Again, she doesn't say anything. "Please, love?" I ask. "My Mom and sister are down there dying to meet you."

"That... that's why," she mumbles.

My mom and sister? Why would they make her nervous?

"What do you mean? Why don't you want to meet my family, El?" I ask. She didn't seem to have any objections earlier in the day when we made plans.

"What if they don't like me?" She asks. I can tell she is beginning to cry again from the tone of her voice.

"Love, they're going to adore you. I know it. You heard how excited they were on the phone earlier," I explain to her. "They have absolutely no reason not to love you."

"But... what if they don't?" She asks.

"Then, so what? If they don't like you, which they are going to like you, then that's their problem for not being able to see what an amazing person you are?" I tell her.

"You would give me back... if they didn't like me," she says quietly.

Now, that is something I definitely didn't expect her to say. I pull out of the hug and look at her in the eyes. "No, no, no. I don't know where you got that idea, but that's not what would happen at all. I'm never giving you back to the adoption center, even if you wanted me to. You're stuck with me for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not," I say.

"You... you promise?" She asks, wiping a tear from her cheek.

"I promise," I say with a smile. She smiles back and leans her head into my chest again.

"I love you so much, Dad," she tells me. Honestly, I still get that amazing feeling in me when she calls me 'dad.' I sometimes still can't believe she's actually my daughter. She's part of my family, and it doesn't matter if she was adopted.

"What do you say? Want to go meet my mom and sister?" I ask Ellie.

"Yeah," She says, nodding her head. "I need a few minutes to clean myself up, though. I can meet you down there." She stands up at looks at herself in the mirror, grabbing a makeup wipe and taking of the smeared mascara around her eyes.

"Okay. I'll meet you down there," I tell her. "And you don't need to wear makeup if you don't want to. You're beautiful as is."

I kiss her on the forehead and she smiles. "Thanks, Dad," she says.

"No problem," I tell her. "I'll be downstairs."

I walk out of her bathroom and down the stairs. It's such a relief knowing Ellie is okay. I was truly worried she was having a seizure or something.

"Hey, guys. Sorry for the wait. Ellie needed some help finishing up the last bit of her homework," I lie to them. Ellie most definitely wouldn't feel comfortable with me telling them what happened upstairs.

"Oh, that's fine. Mom and I were just eating all your chips," Gemma says with a laugh.

I look down at the almost empty bowl of potato chips and laugh. "I can see," I say with a shocked expression.

I sit down with my family at the kitchen tables and start up a conversation with them.

Ellie comes down a few minutes later, with redone makeup and a smile on her face. "Hi," she says, shyly. She walks over to me and stands close.

"You don't have to be nervous, love. These people are your family," I explain.
