Math class was torture. Adelaide was hardly able to focus when everyone in her proximity kept sending her fleeting glances. No matter how hard she tried to take notes, her hands wouldn't stop shaking and her mind couldn't concentrate. She was so lost in her own self-consciousness that Adelaide nearly jumped out of her seat when the bell rang, pulling her out of her troubled thoughts.

"Adelaide I'll need to speak with you a moment." Her teacher, now known as Mr. Davies, said as students began leaving. Adelaide clumsily packed her stuff away and rushed to the front of the classroom where Mr. Davies patiently awaited.

"I'm not aware of where you are in your mathematical studies, but I wanted to make sure that you know that if you ever need any help, I have tutors in here at lunch every week day or you can go to the tutoring wing at anytime during the week." He sent her a reassuring smile.

"O-ok. Thank you." Adelaide nodded, making her way out of the class in a hurry. She was grateful he was making sure she would be able to catch up, but Adelaide didn't have time to talk about it too much as she wasn't sure where her next class was and only had a short passing period to figure it out.

Art - Room 217 Byrne Hall

Adelaide studied the next line of her schedule carefully. The main problem was she couldn't remember which building Byrne Hall was or let alone how to get there. She walked aimlessly through the hallway hoping to find some sort of direction.

Adelaide's face must have displayed just how lost she was as a friendly faced girl approached her. She was intimidatingly beautiful with dark skin and the most perfect curls Adelaide had ever seen. She never was able to tame her waves anywhere near as remotely perfect as the girl in front of her.

"Hey, you seem new here...lost?" The model-like girl asked asked softly.

Adelaide nodded her head, confessing, "Y-yeah I um- I don't know where Byrne Hall is."

"Oh perfect! I'm walking in that direction so I can drop you off. What's your name hun?" The unnamed girl gently pulled Adelaide by her forearm off in the direction of what Adelaide assumed was the building in question.

"Adelaide. Adelaide Abernathy."

"Aw your name is so cute. Im Nessa Doyle." She introduced herself, shooting Adelaide a warm smile. Adelaide could tell Nessa was on the verge of asking her a question, but got quickly cut off before she could.

"Nessy!" A boy in the distance called, beginning to walk towards them. He was a boy of average height with messy black hair and a smug face. He swaggered towards them, exuding confidence with every step.

"What do you want Foley?" Nessa asked, rolling her eyes as he approached them.

"Do I have to want something Nessy?" The boy pouted but Adelaide could tell it was laced with playfulness. "Can't I just talk to my favorite girl on this campus whenever I feel like it?" He continued

"I am clearly not your favorite girl Foley, its not necessary to lie to me. Also, no you can't. Next time make an appointment. Now if you'll excuse us." Nessa made her way around the boy and pulled Adelaide to continue on their path.

"Love you too Nessy."He called after them but made no attempts to follow.

"He knows I hate when he calls me that. It makes me sound like the loch ness monster." Nessa scowled, "Don't mind him, Adelaide. That's Ryan Foley and he's a complete idiot. He might try to get with you at some point, has a habit of doing that, but don't fall for it."

"D-Did you and him...?" Adelaide asked hesitantly before she could stop herself.

"Oh God no. He couldn't get in my pants even if I wanted him to." Nessa scoffed "Anyways enough about him, he always puts me in a bad mood. What's your class?"

"Art in room 217."

"Ooo thats with Mrs. Green. She's such a sweetheart so I'm sure you'll have lovely time."

The two girls soon made it to what could only have been Byrne Hall. It was near the back of the campus, quite a bit off from the other buildings. Nessa led the way inside with Adelaide on her heels. They made their way up the first flight of stairs and down a hallway lined with posters.

"Mrs. Green always has her students make new posters every year. The theme aways changes. I wish I could've taken art again this semester but I couldn't fit it into my schedule." Nessa pouted before stopping in front of a door labeled 217.

Nessa let Adelaide walk in first, following close behind and saying a quick hello to Mrs. green before departing to her own class. Adelaide was thankful she didn't have to walk in alone, especially as half the class was already in the room waiting. Mrs. Green simply said Adelaide could sit anywhere she desired and briefly mentioned that she didn't need to worry about any catch up work as they haven't actually started any projects yet.

The class quickly filled up, kids from all grades taking empty seats along side their friends. She almost let out a sigh of relief when the bell rang and nobody had sat next to her. She for the first time that day felt virtually unnoticed and the feeling was that of being on cloud nine. That was until none other than Ryan Foley walked in a few minutes late, eyes falling directly onto Adelaide.

"Ryan, good to see you. Glad you could make it today." Mrs. Green said to him with a giant smile on her face. That must've meant that he rarely showed up so why of all days did he have to today? Adelaide wondered in desperation, praying her wouldn't take the empty seat next to her.

"Always a pleasure, Mrs. Green." He winked at her before making his way towards Adelaide who was growing more and more anxious. She didn't want the possibility of being hit on by him. She didn't want to befriend him. She just wanted to be left alone. Life didn't work out that way, though, when he plopped down into the seat next to her. The boy sent her a show-stopping smile that made Adelaide understand why so many girls had fallen into his trap.

"Ok friends!" Mrs. Green called, clasping her hands together excitedly. "I think today calls for some watercolor painting! I know some of you may be confused because I said we wouldn't be starting any projects yet but I just couldn't help myself. Come get some paints and brushes for you and your table mate. I want you all to paint something that brings you joy, that is my only requirement." With that Mrs. Green began handing out sheets of paper and students around the classroom made their way up to the front to get their paints as instructed.

"I'll get the paints, sunshine." Ryan winked as he got up.

Sunshine? Adelaide frowned. This is not how she wanted the day to go.
