Adelaide didn't fix it. Quite honestly, she did not see any reason to. She wasn't even sure what exactly Levi wanted her to fix in the first place. Wyatt was just a friend to her and he would only ever be that. She couldn't understand why Levi would care. After the way he's been treating her, he should be treading lightly.

So, instead of doing whatever Levi had in mind when he told her to fix it, she potentially made the situation worse by inviting Wyatt to come along with the rest of the group to the lake this weekend.

Molly and Nico's parents own a house right on the dock in the little town just down the road from campus so of course they would go every so often throughout the school year. This weekend, Molly and Nessa planned a fun trip for them all to go. It didn't seem like Adelaide's place to invite Wyatt, but when she brought the idea up to Molly, Adelaide knew she would love it.

The wait through school all week was torturous for her.

The school work was starting to catch up to her. Being farther into the semester and it being her senior year, the teachers had been assigning countless projects. It was mentally exhausting for her to try to get everything done. This was the first real week where she felt she had to put in real effort to stay on pace.

Which was all the more reason why this trip had begun to mean so much to Adelaide.

The trip was also all any of the group could talk about anytime they were together, which was almost all the time.

Ryan, over course, had somehow convinced everyone that he wanted to snorkel when they get to the lake. He claimed to have become an expert when he went on a trip to Hawaii a few years before. Regardless of whether he was actually good at it or not, he had managed to pique Adelaide's interest. Seeing Ryan flounder around the lake in an effort to snorkel in what Adelaide could only assume to be murky, not the clearest of water was quite an interesting thought.

Molly and Nessa came over to Adelaide's dorm room the Thursday before the trip in order to help her decide what to pack. Seeing as she had never been, she didn't know what they would think was appropriate for such an occasion. Luckily, the two were more than happy to practically do all the work for her.

Not that she had planned to have them do everything, they just each immediately took over upon their arrival.

She was tempted to ask the girls if Levi would also be going on the trip, but felt as if it would be a stupid question. He is their friend and has been for a long time so there was practically no way that they would go on a trip without at least inviting him.

That being said, Adelaide wasn't quite sure she wanted to know the answer.

Either way, her brain would find a way to make her overthink the situation. If he were to go, she would panic endlessly about seeing him again, especially considering she was the one to invite Wyatt. If he were to not go, she would feel terrible that she was pushing him away from friends he had before she did. Either way felt like a loss.

Nessa abruptly turned away from the door on her way out a couple hours later with Molly. "Oh, Adelaide," Nessa started, "I know I said we were going to leave around 4 tomorrow, but we only have the one car and Nico needs to go to some appointment in town or something so we actually need to leave closer to 2 now."

Adelaide nodded her head and shut the door softly behind the two after saying goodbye. Leaving earlier was certainly no problem with her. The sooner they leave, the more time they all get to spend off campus and at a beautiful lake house. What's not to love about that?

When it struck 1:30 the following day, Adelaide was already clutching her bag with excitement as she made her way out of her room. Nessa was waiting outside the dorm for her so that they could walk over together. She kept rattling off things to do that just furthered Adelaide's impatience to get there. I mean swimming, boating, tubing, tanning, party games, and so on.

The smile that took control of Adelaide's face did not seem to be going away anytime soon.

Nico was sorting out the bags in the back of the car, Ryan was irritating Nessa like usual, and Wyatt and Adelaide were chatting near the back car doors.

She was expecting to leave any moment as she looked at the time on her phone, but Molly was nowhere in sight. Adelaide was just about to ask Nico when she saw her a few yards away along side no one other than Levi.

She almost slapped her forehead in frustration. Not only was she still upset with him, but now he was going to get upset with her yet again since she invited Wyatt. She knew it was the most likely option that he would end up tagging along, but that didn't make her feel any less concerned.

Levi threw his bag in the back with the others and spoke to Nico for a quick second before making eye contact with Adelaide. His eyes left hers in order to narrow in on Wyatt, but if he had said anything about it, Adelaide could not hear. She knew she was bound to hear an ear full in due time.

Nessa walked over, rubbing her forehead in deep thought. "Okay. We have more people than we usually do so this is going to be a bit of a squeeze. Obviously Nico is driving and Molly is of course in the passenger seat. That leaves us five in the back." Nessa pointed to Adelaide, Ryan, Wyatt, and Levi.

"Dibs on Nessie." Ryan grinned, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. Nessa rolled her eyes but Adelaide could see in her eyes how relieved she was he had said that. It was utterly adorable.

"Um, right. I leave you three to figure out how you wanna take up the other two seats." Nessa smiled sheepishly before making her way to the other side of the car with Ryan hot on her heals, clearly not wanting to involve herself in the awkward tension that filled the air between them.

Adelaide looked from Levi to Wyatt and back to Levi again. Levi had his arms crossed and didn't break eye contact with Wyatt for a second. If his goal was to intimidate, it was working, even on Adelaide and he hands't spared her a glance. She wanted to speak up, but she honestly didn't have a decision. Either way was uncomfortable for her for obvious reasons.

Finally Wyatt broke. "I'll take the middle." He did not hesitate to turn around and clamber into the car.

Adelaide did hesitate, though. Even if neither option was ideal, having to sit on Levi's lap after their last encounter was petrifying. She suddenly wish she said something. Even then, it could have made things worse. Not that she thought they would fight over her. That notion was simply ridiculous.

Adelaide sighed, following slowly behind Levi as he made his way to the open door of the back row. He turned and gave her a quirked brow once he reached the door that made her quicken her pace purely out of instinct.

Before she had time to process his series of movements, Levi took hold of her waist, gripping her tightly when he picked her up as he stepped into the car and right into the open seat. Adelaide was immediately plopped into his lap and he shut the door directly after. Her face said it all.

She was not prepared for any of whatever this was in the slightest.
