Kenma scrolled through the past messages of him and his mother after sending a simple greeting to her for this day.

"hey mom, I'm doing good here and I hope you are too there..."

"who are you talking t– are you on the phone with your mom??" y/n turned her phone off and ran to kenma out of curiosity to hear the voice of who he's calling.

"no, dumba– idiot... I'm sending my mom a voicemail." kenma reworded since his phone was still recording.

"oh... HEY MAMA KOZUMEE~! HAPPY MOTHERS' DAY QUEEN, HAVE A GREat day–" y/n's high pitched voice was caught in the recording as it slowly lowers when kenma slightly moves away.

"I appreciate you greeting my mother but please don't shout when you're ear level to me." kenma said as y/n just nervously giggles from behind him.

"hey, kenma. can I see a picture of her?" y/n smiles genuinely while maintaining eye contact with kenma.

"I will show you later.... OH! Sorry about that mom, uh- happy mothers' day. please don't overwork yourself. That was my friend who just greeted you by the way. Anyway, love you, bye.." The recording stopped and was immediately sent to his mother.

Kenma opened his gallery as per y/n's request.

"Holy shit your mother is pretty as fuck."

"Please don't catch feelings for my own mother, y/n.." kenma nonchalantly bonked the top of y/n's head, followed by her giggles.

"I'll try-"

"I will leave you in this apartment."

"KIDDING HA HA.. Bitch, don't just trigger my abandonment issues like that~!" y/n scrunched her nose and crossed her arms.

"ok."

"hm.."

"Have you greeted your mom?" kenma put his phone back in his pocket and then asked.

"nope.." y/n's mood seems to drop and kenma noticed.

"do you not have a good relation with her? If you don't mind me asking of course.." he leaned on the counter and you proceeded to take a seat as you open your messages.

"It's not that... I'm just- I just don't feel comfortable expressing love for my family."

"..."

"don't get the wrong idea- I love them but.. I always tend to argue with them like alot. I may be uh- what's that word..." kenma patiently waits as he carefully listens to you.

"stubborn..?" he spoke and y/n nodded.

"you know, your mom is really gonna appreciate it so much if you tell her a simple greeting." he continued.

"yeah, but.. in my situation, it's been years since I've last had a heartfelt conversation with them. I can't even give a simple birthday greeting on their birthday, pathetic.. right?" y/n's mood drops even more and kenma feels panicked.

"hey... it's ok. Just think about it this way.. when you greet your mother right now, just think of how happy she would be after years of waiting for her daughter to slowly open up to them again.." kenma puts his hand on top of her head for comfort and finally sees her look up again with a smile.

"you know, you're not really acting like any other days, but thanks hub.." y/n's left hand reaches the top of her head to touch kenma's hand, signalling for her being thankful.

"It's nothing."

y/n's finger hesitantly pressed the record button, copying what kenma did earlier.

"h-hey mom... I uh- miss you. I hope you guys are doing fine there..."

"Happy mothers' day, mama l/n" kenma copied how y/n had greeted his mother earlier which earned another giggle from her.

"That was my friend.. but anyway, I'll be visiting very soon and... happy mothers' day." Her finger finally pulled back from the phone screen and the voicemail was immediately sent to her mother.

"good job. I knew you could do it." kenma smiled and y/n playfully punches his arm.

"For fucks sake, I hate it when you're acting way too nice out of the blue. Fine, I'm paying for today's lunch." she hid her phone in her pocket and her hands reached kenma's back to push him out the apartment.

"Where do you wanna eat out?" he asked as y/n catches up to his side.

"Not sure.. Let's just have a fun hangout today and take pictures. I'm paying anyway."

"Sounds good." they both got in the car and drove off.
