Aeress

“The fourth trial has been completed,” Aeress addressed all four judges. “No, that is not true, the Candor Trials have been completed.”

Guide Alejandra stood up, shaking her head with vigor. Her dark brown hair was frayed with stress. “You cannot declare this, any of it. The Candor Trials have not been completed. You have one trial remaining.”

“You do not tell Godhead what she can and cannot do. As Godhead, I command you.” Aeress was trying to best to reign in her temper.

Guide Declan slammed his hands down. “You have not been declared Godhead, you do not have power.” His heavily freckled face blush to a full-on red color.

Aeress took a threatening step forward and bared her fangs. “Would you like to test that theory, Guide?” She was fully prepared to hand out some whoop-ass to every single one of them. She was really getting sick of this whole situation!

“We understand your frustration, Godhead,” Guide Amal spoke up, a more calm voice in the discussion. “We have waited thousands of years for this. These trials must be executed properly or they will be considered invalid.”

“Invalid?” Aeress repeated angrily. “My pain is invalid?” She raised her shirt to reveal the collection of scars. “Are these invalid?! I have displayed my power. I have no other tricks. There is nothing else to test!”

“There is though," Guide Declan responded smugly, "the fifth trial.”

“Tell me then!” She burst out with, “reveal this fifth trial so that we may finally move on.”

They looked to each other in uncertainty. They were having a silent conversation and Aeress was going to explode from the anticipation. “Aeress, you have completed the fourth trial, and now we move on to the fifth. Before we crown you queen, we must know for certain that you are the ultimate power of this world, and we can only know this if you defeat the current reigning power of this world.”

She tilted her head in confusion. “Who?” She froze when her eyes landed on Warrick. She shook her head. “No. I can't do that.”

"Does this mean you forfeit your right to the throne?"

"I can't kill my own mate!" She briefly looked over at Warrick who seemed just as startled.

"We are not asking you to kill him, he is too important of a figure to werewolf society, but you must prove you are capable of it if you wished it so. "

Aeress looked to Warrick again. She was panicking with every ounce of adrenaline her body could produce. "Please help me," she whispered. She didn't know what do to.

For a moment, he just stood there, so cold and blank. And then it was if he exploded. "Warrick, no!" she screamed. Her breath was stolen as he smashed his lips against hers, ravaging her mouth without ever once pausing. She was shocked and felt guilty for believing even for a split second that he would harm her, and melted into him.

She knew that there were so many onlookers, but at the same time she wanted the whole world to watch as Warrick so openly embraced her. She inhaled his scent and immediately was aflame with the desire to be completely overwhelmed by his presence.

He pulled away from her but did not let go. His eyes had a raging fire which would not and could not be controlled. Warrick was on the edge of his precious control and Aeress hoped she could handle when he finally fell. She couldn't look away if she tried. She was captured by his power and the way his body vibrated with heat and a barely contained fury.

He took her hand and clutched it fiercely. Side by side, they faced the guides.

"I will not fight my mate!" he shouted. She stopped herself from flinching at how deep and beastly his voice was. "I am incapable of harming her. You knows this better than anyone in the world the power of a mate's bond. This you cannot deny. Mates cannot fight in the savage way in which you desire."

"Are you neglecting your duty as Premier by refusing to participate in the last trial? And in having intimate contact with our potential Godhead?" Guide Declan demanded with glee in his eyes.

He shook his head. "I have followed your rules for long enough. You are greedy and do not wish to relinquish your power to where it truly belongs: her. But she does not need your permission, let the people speak for themselves." He gestured up toward the remaining people, and Aeress had not realized that every single one of them had gotten on their knees in a kneeling position. They were praying to her, praising her, she could feel it.

His eyes gleamed with challenge. "They are worshipping their queen, why aren't you?"

Guide Declan opened his mouth to speak more bullshit.

Aeress couldn't take it anymore. She transformed into her beast form and released a roar unlike any other. It reached heights unseen, pouring over every creature almost instantly and forcing them into a position of submission.

Even the guides could not ignore the power of her command and got onto the floor without question. Their animal instincts would always obey her true voice without question. Warrick too had been driven to his knees in submission.

Her throat became raw as this siren of dominance left past her lips and continued to spread her presence of power until it was impossible for her to be ignored. She wanted every single one of them to understand how strong she was and to respect that she was the one which held all of the cards.

They were now bound to her and they would not be allowed to be ignorant to her true nature any longer.

This was the beginning of a new era.

This time around, she was queen.

Her own ears were ringing once she stopped and she looked down to see blood coming from Warrick's ears. She held out her hand and when he took it, she pulled him up and did a shitty job of wiping the crimson away.

"Enough!" she addressed them. "Of the games. Anyone who would like to challenge my authority may speak up now, and this includes you four, Guides. Now is the time to do it, you will not have this opportunity again in such a proper manner."

Aeress raised an eyebrow at the two women and the two men who were struggling to recover from her dominating show of power.

Guide Amal said with pride in her eyes. "The Candor Trials are complete. Under the power of the moon goddess, all of werewolf society, and Premier, you are declared Godhead."

Everyone erupted with clapping and shouts of joy!

Aeress couldn't believe those words rang true. Tears of happiness threatened to break free.

     "Aeress, move!"

A force so powerful went off from above, and the entire ceiling collapsed as if it wasn't built so many centuries ago. "Run, Aeress!"  Aeress got the wind knocked out of her when Warrick wrapped his arms around her and threw her out of the way as the shards came crashing down.

The force of it propelled her through one of the doorways surrounding the arena. Her body ached immediately on impact, pulsing with a new and fresh pain. She coughed and got up quickly to see Warrick being slashed unrelentingly by the fallen glass. "Warrick!" she called out to him over the noise.

     "Get out-"

Aeress was thrown back again as yet another explosion went off. Rubble slammed into her. She had to think fast as the tunnel began to collapse, relying on instinct more than anything else. The thundering sound of it followed her as she raced farther in to the building and farther away from Warrick.

More and more stone came crumbling down and she left the arena part of the temple. She rolled into a more open area only to find more chaos. Smoke clouded the air, mixed with thick dust. She could barely breathe, let alone think.

She snatched a person who was running past her. "Tell me what's happening!"

His tan forehead was slashed open pretty widely, and the gushing wound was mixed in with lighter dust. She could tell he was close to one of the explosions. He smelled of burning flesh. "Godhead!"

She shook her head, forgetting who she was for a moment. "No, not now! Tell me what the hell-" They were rocked by yet another boom. "Is going on?!"

"Godhead help us, we're under attack!" His high-pitched voice was shrill with terror.

"From who? Never mind. Run! Get to safety and help others if you can!" She shouted over the noise of screaming and what sounded like war.

She looked all around as people scrambled toward every and any exit. Some paused to stare at her towering figure but their desperation for life overpowered their curiosity. Her mind was jumbled with so many thoughts. What should she do?

     She worried immediately for Warrick.

A woman's cry caught her attention. She probably needed her help more than Warrick did.

This cry was cut off as the wall behind her collapsed. Aeress zipped to her location and yanked her away just in time, but she heard a sizzling before the ground below them burst with fire and energy.

Aeress landed many feet away and was dazed just for a moment. She coughed and slapped her arm which was on fire. Her breathing was ragged as she attempted to get up again and help who she could.

     "Aeress!"

She looked up at that voice and had never been more confused in her life.

     "Shaya?"
