Chapter 39: Deserted Town

Four days. Four whole days I have lied to Aiden. It's killing me inside, slowly eating me alive.

Gabe and Daniel believe keeping it a secret is for the better but maybe if I tell him he will understand.

Or maybe he won't.

I sigh as I look at myself in my bathroom mirror.

I can't see Aiden, it hurts me inside to look at those pure blue eyes of his and lie to him. It hurt too much.

I heard a knock on the door and winced.

If it's Aiden I might just jump out the window and see how far I can make it.

Probably not far.

I fixed my curls and plastered a sweet smile on my face before strutting towards my bedroom door.

I open it wide only to be greeted by the face of my mother.

I felt my smile lower, the sadness of her words digging deeply into my skin, reminding me how much I wasn't worth her time.

A small smile formed on her face, her eyes filled with sadness.

"Hi dear, " she said as she stood there, staring at me.

I tried to say something but my mouth wouldn't move.

A frown grew on her face as she sighed and ran her hands through her hair, "We can't keep ignoring each other. We should talk, " she suggested.

I nodded slowly as I scoot to the left so she could walk into the room.

I glanced out the hallway and realized Aiden wasn't here, gladly.

I closed my bedroom door and faced the woman who raised me, she was sitting at the end of my bed, a sad smile on her face.

"Mom-"

"Hate me. You deserve to, " she interrupted as she sniffed in.

I felt my heartbeat increase nervously at what words she was going to say.

I could never hate her, she's my mother.

She patted the seat next to her and I sat beside her on the comfy mattress.

She turned to me, the small wrinkles filling her face.

"I blamed you, I always did. Charlie, your brother. He was everything to me. He was my firstborn. When I found out I was pregnant I was afraid to tell my parents, they showed no care for me, they...hated me. I knew they wouldn't help me, I knew your dad was trying to but he was only 23, trying to finish college. We had enough money to buy an apartment and when we did I had to learn to do so many things. Cook, clean, find a job, raise your brother." She wiped the one tear that rolled down her cheek before continuing, "I promised I would never treat my kids as my parents treated me. Charlie taught me how to be an independent woman, how to live for myself. When you were born I knew you were a gift from God, so I named you Heaven. You were so gorgeous, you started to become my number one priority. Once your brother went off to college, I knew I had a couple of years left with you."

"Mom, " my voice broke as I felt the tears roll down my cheek.

She shook her head, silencing me.

"What I'm trying to say is that you didn't do anything to hurt your brother. Falling for someone was not your fault. I blamed it on you, expecting somehow Char would come back, but he didn't. And the more I blamed you, the more I knew we were pulling apart." she sighed as she wiped her nose.

"I love you, Heaven, with my whole heart and I've been such a crappy mother putting you through all of this. You're so young and smart and talented, " she sniffed as she pushed a curl behind my ear.

"You hurt me, mom, so bad, " I told her truthfully as I rested my cheek in her palm, my face nuzzling her hand.

"I know baby, " she cried and I watched her bottom lip tremble uncontrollably.

What suddenly got her to realize this?

To realize the pain she's made me suffer, to realize the nightmares I had to go through alone.

I wanted to know what changed.

But, I didn't ask.

I know how she must have felt.

Losing a kid is like losing yourself.

Char is dead, and it wasn't my fault. But, I know who's it was.

I hugged mom, her chin resting on my shoulder as I felt her arms wrap tightly around me.

"I love you, " she whispered as her hand stroked my hair.

I choked at the words that left her mouth. She hasn't said that to me in forever.

"I love you to mom, " I trembled as I hugged her tighter.

"You're hiding something from me, " he sighed as he stared at me from the end of my bed.

"What makes you think that?" I ask slightly worried as I walked towards my closet pulling out an oversized sweater and some black shorts.

"You're ignoring me, " his low voice said and I felt the shivers run up my spine.

Any word that leaves his mouth could kill me.

"N-no, " I scoffed as I took the clothes and walked towards the bathroom. Closing the door behind me.

"Tsk tsk tsk, you shouldn't ignore me Hev. You know bad things can happen," he said seductively through the door.

I bit my lip, a smile spread on my face as I pulled off my shirt and put the hoodie on.

"Oh really?" I asked interested in his threat.

"Mhm, " he replied.

I put my shorts on and opened the bathroom door.

There he was, standing in front of me, his defined figure, his black hair covering some of his face, his stupid but lovely smirk.

"What bad things?" I asked intrigued.

"So you're not ignoring me anymore, " he observed as he sat down at the edge of my bed, motioning me to follow.

I walked towards the bed, about to sit next to him before he grabbed my wrist and pulled me onto his lap.

Both of my legs were spread on both sides of his hips, my torso connected to his.

He leaned towards me, his lips gently brushing mine before he spoke, "You look really good, " he murmured against my lips.

I felt his hands roam up my legs to my waist. His hands slowly went lower, giving my butt a gentle squeeze.

"Do I?" I asked as I took my hands and put them under his shirt, letting my palms roam his chest.

I felt his breath hitch against my lips, I pressed my lips towards his, a gentle but passionate kiss.

Fire, electricity, that's what he set in me.

"I have to go, " I murmured against his soft delicate pink lips.

"Mm, " he nodded, as he kept his eyes on me.

"But, just one minute," he chuckled as he buries his face in the crook of my neck and teases my skin.

"This is the location?" Gabe asked as he sucked a breath in.

"I guess," I sigh as we walk down the deserted sidewalk.

Gabe and I thought that seeing the location Mason wants us to meet him would be better. Just so if we choose to use the police, we know our easiest escape.

"It's deserted, I want to take a dump," Gabe whined.

I narrowed my eyes at him and he sent me a smile with a wink.

"You're gross, " I scoffed.

"My teacher doesn't think that, " he said proudly.

"Well, they lied to you, " I told him and he scowled.

"I would like to let you know that I have all the ladies on me. You just can't see them, " he said before clearing his throat.

I nodded and we continued down the sidewalk, observing the deserted stores.

"That stores open, " I discovered as the lights shone.

We walked towards the store, I'm pretty sure it was a candle store due to the fact that I could smell the strong mixture of scents as I walked towards the door.

We walked in, Gabe finding the candle that was shaped into a duck fascinating.

I walked to the front desk, hoping to find some assistance in why this side of the town was so deserted.

I glanced at the chandelier lights, the walls were filled with books and there were cute tables set for the candles.

There were different shapes, flavors, colors, and designs. They all seemed so elegant, like this should be shown in a side of town where a lot of people are.

"Hiya!" a woman voice said cheerily, scaring me.

I placed my hand on my heart in shock before letting out a small laugh.

"You scared the crap out of me, " I told her.

She had gray short hair that was in a bob, the wrinkles on her face were leveled to an extreme amount, her skin was pale as paper and the gum above her straight teeth gave off a gray color.

"Sorry dear, " she frowned as she set the rag down onto the desk.

I rested my arms on the desk that was separating me and her.

"It's fine, really. I just wanted to know why this place was so deserted."

She sighed before leaning forward, "Between you and me, this place has never been this quiet. It's like someone came here and scared everyone off. I'm here to just sell and I'm not moving this store, it took me to long to build it." she waved her hands in annoyance.

I nodded in understanding.

"So you think someone did this?" I ask intrigued.

"This side of the town was full of buyers a week ago, now I feel like I'm the only person here, " she sighed while shaking her head lightly.

"You thinking what I'm thinking?" Gabe asked from behind me.

"Yup, " I replied and watched the lady's face grow confused.

"Maggie, " she introduced herself.

"Heaven and this dingbat is Gabe, " I pointed to Gabe behind me.

After talking to Maggie for a while Gabe and I finally decided it was best to leave the area. We were both tired and the place was just creeping us out.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

"Yes, right there, " I moaned.

I closed my eyes in satisfaction.

"You're making this sound like something it's not, " he said behind me as he removed his strong hands from my shoulders.

"Sorry, but my shoulders have been killing me all day, " I groaned as I rested my head on his chest, my back against his front.

He bent down and kissed the top of my hair.

"Let me give you a massage somewhere else, " he whispered against my hair.

I bit my lip, holding back the smile that was erupting over my face.

"Let's go to my room, " he suggested.

I complied and got up from the island stools, following him up the stairs.

I smacked his butt as he walked ahead of me.

I heard a chuckle leave his lips and I laughed as well, which ended up with both of us dying of laughter at the top of the stairs.

"Shh, " he whispered acknowledging the fact it was one in the morning.

Ever since the parents decided to fix their bedtimes were for the best, we had to become more silent.

We walked into the room and I walked towards his bed, sitting at the end.

He closed the door behind him and turned to face me, his blue ocean eyes coming into view, filled with adventure and hunger.

He walked towards me, his lips gently pressing against mine. The kiss became needier as he pushed me down onto the bed. His body was now on top of mine as he placed a slow kiss along my neck.

His lips slide slowly down to my chest. His eyes looked up at me in asking. I nodded, feeling the need to have him on me, his lips covering my body. He removed my shirt, throwing it onto the floor.

I felt my face heat red as his eyes stared down at my red laced bra. I watched as he slowly licked his lips.

"Let me please you, " he whispered.
