~Chapter Twenty Four.~

~Zacks P.O.V~

"Hurt who by a bet?" I hear a deep voice say behind me.

My eyes widen and I turn around quickly.

"Uhh, uh..Gabe!" I say quickly. "What are you doing here?"

Gabe frowns and points to a grave a few feet away from us. "My grandmother passed away a couple months ago, and my Mom made me come here and put fresh flowers on her grave." He says. "Not like you really needed to know that..."

I try my best to smile and I scratch the back of my neck. "So, uh...how long have you been here?" Or what I really want to know, is how much have you heard, but I didn't say that.

He steps closer to me and gives me a look, that I really never wanted to see in my life.

I know I shouldn't really be afraid of Gabe, but He's '6"2,and I'm '5"9, He's the fullback for the football team, whereas I'm just on the basketball team, I've seen him take down all of my friends, and he must practice his intimidating looks in the mirror, because he gets more terrifying each time I see him.

"I've been here long enough."

I run my hand through my hair, nervously. "Look, I-" I don't get to finish, because Gabe picks me up by my shirt, making me face to face with him...Which even surprised me.

"Listen here, you trash bag." He starts in a low and quiet voice. I try to push myself away from him, but he shakes me and pulls me closer to him. "If you even dare to hurt Sophie, I will rip your head off with my bare hands, stick an apple in your mouth, then eat your head for Thanksgiving."

I grind my teeth together. "I'm not afraid of you." Which is partly true.

Gabe drops me to the ground. "Call the bet off, Zack. Or you're going to regret the day you ever decided to mess with her."

I shake my head and stand up in front of him. "You can't tell me what to do."

Gabe laughs a non-humor laugh. "You have no idea what I can do, do you boy? " Gabe's face turns dark and I take a step back away. "Don't mess with me." He takes his fist and slams it into my rib cage.

I grab my stomach and groan as I fall on the ground.

"And don't mess with Sophie." He kicks me in my stomach, causing stabbing pain to shoot up my body.

Gabe squats down in front of me and points his finger at me.

"Call.Off.The.Bet. Do you hear me?"

I don't say nothing, just try to focus on getting rid of the pain quickly.

Gabe grabs my hand and bends it backwards "Do you hear me, Zack?!"

"Yes! Yes, I hear you!" I yell as sharp pain runs through my arm.

He smirks and lets go of my hand. "Good." I sigh, relieved, and glare up at Gabe. "Just to make sure you hear me correctly, I'm going to give you one last warning."

He punches me in my stomach and sharp pain comes in the middle of my stomach and shoots up my chest. He punched me so hard, I can barely breath.

"Have a nice day, man." He says smiling sweetly, then he stands up and walks down the path, until I can't see him anymore.

~Sophies P.O.V~

Why isn't Gabe answering his phone?

"Hey, this is Gabe. Sorry, I'm too busy to talk to you...You must not be worth my time. Please leave a message after the beep..bye-" I sigh and close my phone.

I've called him eight times.

He left school early today, and I'm a little worried about him.

I push up my glasses and put my phone in my back pocket of my long red skirt, then reach into my locker and put my books in it.

"Hey, Sophie."

I turn around to see Ian standing behind me.

I cock my head slightly to the side. "Ian?" I say quietly. "What are you doing here?"

He flashes me his white smile and shrugs. "Nothing, I'm just bored."

I raise my eyebrows and push my glasses up. "Uh, um, okay." I smile shyly then turn around and take my bag out of my locker, trying to forget that Ian is standing behind me.

"So, how are you?"

This is awkward...

I slide my bag over my shoulder then turn around to face him.

"I'm okay, I guess."

He nods. "I guess that's better then being awful."

I nod and look at the floor, wishing that he would leave.

"How are you and Zack?"

Ah...So this is the real reason he's here.

My head snaps up to meet his eyes. "Why do you wanna know?"

He raises his hands in a surrender position. "Whoa!" He smiles. "I just want to know. Nothing wrong with being curious."

I frown then walk around him.

I'm not going to tricked by Zack.

Ian catches up with me and walks at my pace. "Look, I just wanted to know, because he told me that you had a horrible time on the date, and I-"

"I did have a horrible time." I interrupt him. "Tell Zack to get over me, because I don't like him!" I walk faster towards the exit and Ian grabs my hand, causing me to stop.

"Calm down! This has nothing to do with Zack! I was just asking!"

We both stand there, staring at each other and breathing heavily from walking fast and yelling at each other.

I break our stare and I look at the lockers.

"Whatever." I say softly.

I look down and notice that he is still holding my hand and a blush climbs up on my cheeks. Ian looks down and notices  that too and drops my hand.

"Sorry..." He mutters.

I look up at him and see that he's blushing too.

I smile at him and he clears his throat and backs up away from me.

"I-uh, I have...I have to go.." He stutters.

I've never seen him act this way before. Although, I've never really talked to Ian before.

"Okay. Uh..See you."

He nods his head. "Uh, yeah." He walks past me and walks out of the school.

I smile as I see him turn around and look at me once more before he leaves.
