It was a little girl with blonde hair around the age of five, someone he had only faintly remember. Yet, now that memory had gradually turned clear.

Lucas was standing in a daze, looking at the photo in his grasp with disbelief. How could it be here...?

The grandma's words drilled themselves into his mind. Repeating like unending waves. The photos of Amara's mother. It was Savannah.

But, how could she look so different now? The current Savannah had the hair of light brown while the little girl named Sofia Dawson had blonde hair.

"Is this Savannah?" Lucas's words came out abruptly.

The grandma looked startled at Lucas's reaction, then tentatively nodded with slight confusion.

"It was one of the photos of my granddaughter." She didn't address how Lucas called Savannah by her first name. Are they that close?

Lucas's hand was trembling slightly as he stared unblinkingly at the figure in the photo. It was a girl sitting on a sofa, unaware that someone was taking a shot of her picture. The blonde hair shined almost like golden color, making her look innocent.

"She had different hair," Lucas mumbled, his gaze shifted to the grandma with a lot of questions swirling in his eyes.

He knew that perhaps, there was a backstory to this. Things couldn't be so simple. He remembered that Savannah had reacted quite strangely at the bracelet from his childhood. She probably found it familiar, but couldn't pinpoint where she had seen it before.

The grandma looked at him with complication. After a while, she sighed. "I know that you are probably a friend of that child. Telling this story probably wouldn't hurt. Let's sit down first."

Lucas followed the grandma to sit down in one of the seats. He was still holding the photo in his right hand.

"It was an accident many years ago." The grandma said while coughing slightly. It was clear that age had taken a toll on her body.

"Savannah, that child was lost while the family went to an outing near a village. People thought that the child had somehow got drowned in the river." The grandma stopped, taking a deep breath. "But some days later, it was such a relief that the child was actually saved by a couple who was also taking a trip to the village."

Lucas listened attentively. He sucked in a deep breath. He had started to get the gist of the story.

"When the child's parents asked for the child, they refused. Even in the exchange of compensation. The couple runs off with the child when the parents were unaware of it."

Lucas remembered some flashes of a small face with a scared look. She'd sometimes cry, but also a frightened look on her face while seeing the tears. She would desperately wipe it away,  even when she fell to the ground and was bleeding.

He just realized that something wasn't alright with her condition that day. Lucas vaguely also remembered that she would occasionally be in a daze when someone called her Sofia.

"It took some time for the parents to track the child down since the couple would move from place to place. The child had become traumatized when the parents finally found her." The grandma continued.

"The couple didn't have a child, that's the reason why they took Savannah." The grandma ended the story. "Changing Savannah's hair color is one of the ways to help that child forget about her traumatizing past."

"I hope that you won't mention this too much on her."

Lucas was silent for a moment. He was still in slight disbelief. He hadn't expected such a story to have occurred.

As a child, he couldn't possibly be such an observant person to notice another child's strange behavior, but now he finally noticed some of it from his vague memories.

Sofia Dawson, the one who worked in his company was somehow unfamiliar. Now, he has found the reason. For what should he hesitate anymore?

"Thank you for telling me this," Lucas told the old lady. He took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.

He suddenly wanted to meet Savannah and talk to her. However, he knew that it wasn't the right time for that.

He needed to fix another thing first. Otherwise, he afraid that Savannah would still misunderstand him.

"I can have Savannah to meet you." The old lady snapped Lucas out of her reverie. She shook her head. "But that child is still sleeping right now."

Lucas shook her head. "There was no need, Madam. I don't want my presence here to disturb Savannah's rest."

He didn't want to call her by using her last name anymore. The guilt in his heart was almost overwhelming now that he recalled what he had done.

He owed too much from Savannah.

He owed her an apology. A lot of it. He realized that he hadn't done a single thing to make up for his mistake. Even when he had known that she was the girl he had left under such humiliation.

"Alright then. I will be out for a bit. You can make yourself comfortable here." The old lady said. "I apologize for unable to accompany you here any longer."

"No need to apologize, Madam. I am the one intruding here." Lucas hurriedly said. "Thank you for your hospitality, Madam."

The grandma stood up from her seat. She took heavy steps to the kitchen and after a moment, she was finally out of sight.

Lucas took didn't return the photo in his hand. Instead, he stored it away in his pocket.

Savannah was originally having blonde hair. Lucas could finally see the slight semblance of it on Amara as she passed by Lucas's seat. Her hair was in darker color while the Hernandezs were usually lighter.

Amara was looking at the floor as if looking for something. Lucas touched his pocket, awkward. He could've guessed what this child was looking for.

When Amara's eyes accidentally met with his, she froze for a moment. Then, she shyly ran away.

"Uncle, how could you bully a child like that?" Adrian suddenly came strutting in with an accusation.

Lucas froze for a moment. Does this nephew of his, know that he was hiding something?

"Look, Amara is afraid of you." Adrian continued. Lucas let out a breath of relief somehow. So, this rascal wasn't talking about the photo.

When he was about to answer, Adrian suddenly stuck his tongue out and run away. Lucas was unfazed by that as he fished out his phone and called Andrew's number.

Time to get rid of some unwanted fishes.

Here is another update! I am so sleepy right now while writing this. I hope that I didn't accidentally type Lucas's name as Leon, another character's name in a book I just updated lmao.
