Georgia had enjoyed a leisurely breakfast with Moria and Collin, despite her troubled thoughts, before saying her goodbyes with a promise to come and see them as soon as the baby was born. It had hurt her to know that it was probably a promise that she wouldn't keep, but she hadn't been able or willing to upset Moria. Once she was back home the distance would, hopefully, make a reasonable excuse for her not visiting.

She had packed her stuff and Mr. Charles had already carried her bags down to the car. She was set to take the train to the house in the country and she was looking forward to the solitude so that she could think. She hadn't slept at all the night before as she kept replaying Aunt Prsicilla's words over and over again. None of it seemed real and even if it was, which it must be, it didn't change anything. Perhaps, if she and Ewan had grown up together then things would have been different.

The fact of the matter was that Georgia would always be recognized as one of Ewan's employees before anything else, and if Isobel had her way Ewan's business and his employees would take a hit because of her. She thought of what Cameron had told her. She had laughed at the thought of being a modern day boogie woman, but if she hadn't of laughed she would have cried.

The kitchen was empty except for Mrs. Charles.

"I've come to say goodbye again Mrs. Charles," Georgia said as she peeked around the door. "But it seems everyone else is working."

"Yes, but I'll be sure to let them know." The woman who Georgia once thought of as a bit strict smiled at her.

"Thank you." She nodded and quickly turned to leave before the strange numbness that had settled over her wore off and she began to cry again. She had cried too much over the past few weeks and she was done with it. She was done with the whole thing.

When she reached the hall Diana was there waiting for her and she looked as if she was about to leave as well. "Georgia, is it alright if I come with you? I don't want to be here right now."

Georgia couldn't very well say no so she smiled as sincere of a smile as she could produce and nodded. "What about Carrie?"

"I let her go."

That caught Georgia off guard and she couldn't hide her shock and suspicion. She hoped, after everything that had happened the past few days that Diana didn't want her to come back and work for her again. Georgia bit back a hysterical laugh at the thought. In what kind of weird time loop had she landed. Well, it ended here. She opened her mouth to speak her mind but Diana must have guessed what she was about to say because she stopped her by holding up her hand.

"No, I'm trying to figure things out for myself and perhaps one of the best ways to do that would be to be on my own for awhile. I've decide to leave after the party."

"Leave?"

Diana nodded her head. "Yes, I'm not sure where I'll go yet, but somewhere no one knows me, where I'll be free to figure out who I am without anyone's preconceived ideas."

Georgia thought about it, it might be the only chance she stood to become someone decent. She led the way out of the door, still not saying anything as they loaded into the car. "It's not enough though," She said softly when they were on their way.

Diana looked like she was about to cry at Georgia's words and Georgia couldn't help but reach out for her hand. "No Diana, you can change, I see moments in you. That's not what I mean when I say it's not enough. The money, you have to give that up too. Otherwise you won't learn a damn thing."

"The money?" Diana looked cornered at the idea. "I don't know....I...Ewan never gave up the money," she finally said defensively.

"Money doesn't do you much good when you're a soldier fighting a war. In fact, I bet if the others who served with him knew about his wealth they made his life a living hell for it." She smiled at the thought of anyone giving Ewan hell for anything.

Diana thought the same thing as she laughed. "I doubt that. No one messes with Ewan."

Georgia couldn't help but think of Isobel. If only that was true.

The car stopped and Georgia turned to look out the window. They were at the same office building that they had left from last time they went to the country. This had been the beginning of the end then, so it seemed fitting that they should return now.

"I asked Ewan if we could use the helicopter. It will be quicker than the train." Diana said as her door opened. This time there was a brunette woman standing there, waiting to greet them.

"Ms. Mailler? I'm Samantha, I'm Mr. Mailler's secretary." The woman smiled sweetly. She was dramatically different from Gwen. Her dark hair was pulled back into a high ponytail, she wore glasses, limited make up surrounded her brown eyes and pert nose and, she wore a pair of slacks and a cardigan set.

"Hello Samantha, this is Georgia Dawson, a family friend," Diana said as she stood aside for Georgia to stand beside her. Georgia did her best to not look shocked at the new form of introduction.

"Hello Ms. Dawson, will you both follow me? Mr. Mailler asked to see you both before you left for the country."

"I like this one much better," Diana leaned in and whispered into Georgia's ear, Georgia nodded her agreement. This one seemed to be more down to earth and less self-involved.

The trip up to Ewan's office was less tense than previously as they all rode silently in the elevator. Georgia spent the minutes trying to prepare herself to see Ewan again. She hadn't planned on seeing him until the weekend at the party. Georgia ran her hand over her hair and adjusted her glasses before smoothing her grey skirt. She looked over at Diana when she heard her giggle.

"You do have it bad, don't you?"

Georgia couldn't help the blush that stole across her cheeks. "You have no idea." What she couldn't say was that it wasn't just Ewan, it was the circumstance. Before she and Ewan had a system. In public she was his employee in private she was...more. Now, he was treating her as if she was more all the time and it was disconcerting, and she'd be lying if she said it didn't make her a little shy and overawed that a man like Ewan was claiming her in public as well as private.

Samantha was facing forward, but as Georgia looked away from Diana she caught her watching her in the shiny metal doors of the elevator with, what she thought, was a curious expression but before she could determine the look the elevator stopped and the doors slid open.

The same woman was sitting at the receptionist desk as the previous time they had been there. "Good morning Miss. Mailler," she said as they strode across the lobby. Diana nodded and smiled a greeting before they were swept into office.

This time instead of being surrounded by men at a table, Ewan was sitting at his desk the phone in his hand. When he saw them walk in he nodded to them but continued to listen to what was being said on the other end of the phone, his eyes never leaving Georgia. The intense look made her very anxious.

Craig was sitting in a side chair typing something on a tablet, only giving her and Diana a brief nod by way of greeting. Samantha sat in the chair next to his and waited.

"Excellent Rossini, So then we can consider this problem settled?"

Georgia's stomach had fallen as he had said Rossini's name and now her heart was beating out of her chest. She looked at Ewan who was watching her with a severe expression. He seemed very angry. Her whole world started to spin and she grabbed the desk to hold her steady. This was it, he had found out, now it was truly over.

"Will we see you at the party this weekend?" Ewan's gaze dropped down to Georgia's white knuckled grip on his desk. "And Isobel?" he asked as he turned away from her.

There it was. He had changed his mind about her. Had Rossini and he made more than a business deal? Georgia barely registered the hanging up of the phone or the exchange that was made between Ewan and Craig. He must have called her name because when she tuned into what he was saying he didn't sound friendly.

"Look at me Georgia." Georgia couldn't help but obey the command. "I assure you, nothing will affect my business nor my employees. Nothing." His voice was low and menacing. "Do you understand?" his voice was sharp and she nodded her head while biting her bottom lip. She held tighter to the desk as he started to approach her. Ewan had finally come to his senses and what he really meant was that she wouldn't come between him and his business dealings. This was what she wanted, how it needed to be.

"It's time," Craig said, rising and moving towards the door.

Ewan reached out and took Georgia's arm leading her towards the door and out into the lobby. He looked...like her dreams. He was wearing a beautiful suit and his jaw was clean shaven and clenched. He had a lock of hair that fell over his brow and she wanted to push it back into place. His whisky colored eyes were focused straight ahead of him and she could see the little tick in his jaw that meant he was grinding his teeth.

She was thinking all of this but at the same time she kept thinking that she should be glad that he had finally heard her and was giving her the brush off; it was what she had wanted. Sure, she felt like she was dying and her heart was being ripped from her chest but it was for the best.

If he felt her arm trembling under his firm grip he didn't acknowledge it. As if on cue the elevator doors opened and they were pushed into it. Georgia gave a little laugh that ended on a whimper.

"What's so amusing Ms. Dawson?" Her heart died at his words but she had to appear to be strong because that was what she was expected to be.

"Even the elevator opens to your command Mr. Mailler." She looked over her shoulder at him but his eyes didn't even give the little spark they usually did when she said something to amuse him. She took a deep breath and walked into the elevator but as she turned to look at Ewan he already had his back to her and was heading back to his office.

She swallowed hard against a sob and stood ramrod straight. That was it. He had chosen. She didn't doubt that he loved her but he had finally realized that as much as they both wanted to be together it couldn't be.

She had won. That would have to be her mantra for the rest of her days she thought as the doors closed on his retreating back.
