I'm seething when we get back to the table and the only reason I came back is because Beckett looks like he's going to fall apart any second.

As soon as his fathers hand hovered over his belt Beckett folded into himself. His eyes draining of any life and it scares me, but I don't know how to fix it. Aside from beating the life from his father which I so desperately want to do.

"Ahhh, is everyone feeling a bit better now?"

I don't bother to respond not looking at anyone just sitting at the table. Beckett surprises me when he nods.

"Yes thank you"

I turn to him, only to find he's once again curled back into his shell and not looking at me.

His father chuckles.

"Just some overreactions, but we've worked it out, right boys?"

Again I neglect to answer, but Beckett does almost automatically.

"Yes father"

No one besides myself and Derek seem to notice a difference in Beckett and I want to scream at these people; tell them how fucking stupid and blind they are. This man that they praise is a monster and yet they can't see past his wallet.

"Please excuse me, I just realized the time. Beckett and I should really be heading out and getting the boys ready to return to the school"

I look up and meet Derek's gaze, he gives me a nod and I look to Beckett, but he's watching his father.

"A sensible option, you're excused"

The minute his father grants him permission Beckett stands from his chair, but not a second sooner and that angers me.

"It was wonderful seeing you Jasper, I hope to do this again sometime"

I force a smile for Beckett's mom, but glare when his father gives me a fake smile. As we begin to walk away, he speaks again.

"Beckett"

Beckett's entire body goes ridged next to me freezing exactly where he is before turning to face his father.

"Yes father?"

His dad holds his gaze.

"I will, see you tonight"

Beckett nods.

"understood"

I glare at Beckett's back and want to tell him that like fuck he'll see him tonight, but I don't think Beckett can handle another scene so instead I clench my teeth hard.

We walk away and the minute we get in the parking lot Derek turns to Beckett and I.

"What the fuck happened?!"

Beckett sighs.

"Nothing Derek"

I scoff because he's fucking lying and Derek clearly knows that because he glares crossing his arms.

"I swear to god Beckett, we're not doing this again what happened?!"

Beckett shifts his jaw dropping his gaze to his feet.

"Nothing happened."

Derek looks to me and I nod.

"His dad came out and argued with me, we got close, Beckett put his hand on his dad, his dad got pissed and told him he'd see him tonight"

Derek looks unsatisfied with my answer and turns back to Beckett, but he steps around Derek and continues walking to the car.

Brody makes a face.

"so I'm the only one fucking confused right now?"

Beckett sighs "it's nothing, don't worry about it"

I shift my jaw and clench my fists noting Derek does the same at Beckett's words, it's not nothing.

The drive back to the lake house is actually quiet, even Brody sensing he shouldn't talk. We pull into Derek driveway and he nods at Brody.

"Go pack your shit, I gotta talk to Beckett for a minute"

Brody shrugs and heads inside Derek's place well I follow after Beckett whose already half way to his house.

Beckett doesn't say anything to anyone and goes right up to his room. Closing the door, but Derek catches it and walks in closing it behind himself. I want to go in there, but I don't.

Instead I just wait in the hall leaning against the wall crossing my arms. Waiting for the shouting, the cursing, anything, but it never comes.

After a couple minutes Derek opens the door closing it behind him. I lift a brow, but he only turns and reaches up grabbing a picture off the wall and putting on the ground.

When he stands back up straight he surprises me back reeling back and punching a hole into the wall.

"Fuck!"

I blink confused, but he just shakes his head and reaches back down grabbing the picture and hanging it back overtop of the hole.

He nods at me "get ready to go"

I lift a brow.

"What the fuck happened?"

He shakes his head.

"I'll handle it Jasper, just get ready"

I tense my jaw and want to argue that I want to handle it, but Derek won't understand. He thinks I'm just some kid from the west side that showed up and made Beckett's life difficult.

I huff, but do what he says and go into my room. I toss my shit into my bag and zip it closed before going out in the hall. I knock on Beckett's door, but he doesn't answer and I'm not sure what to do. So I sink down against the wall and sit and wait for him to come out.

I sit a good 15 minutes before the door finally opens and Beckett steps out. He pauses when he sees me and sighs.

"What're you doing?"

I stand shrugging.

"Waiting"

He gestures to my bag.

"You're ready?"

I nod once. Waiting for him to say something, tell me he feels better and that he's not stupid enough to come back here tonight.

He simply nods.

"Let's go"

I bite my lip, not sure how to talk to him. How to make this better.

"Beckett.."

He shakes his head.

"Just drop it Jasper, it's over"

I don't like those two words; It's over.

He says goodbye to Loretta who smiles at me and pats my back on the way out, unfortunately I can only muster up half a smile for her.

We walk to Derek's where him and Brody are already putting their bags into the trunk.

Derek glances at Beckett, but just shakes his head and moves to get in the car. I toss my bag into the trunk and watch as Beckett moves to the front seat.

He slouches and doesn't make a move to buckle himself, but Derek's face hardens.

"Buckle Beckett"

Beckett bites his lip and doesn't move to do so, but Derek glares.

"Beckett."

Beckett sighs and pulls his buckle on clicking it into place. Only then does Derek start the car and pull out of the driveway.

It's another silent drive back to the school, and I spend the whole time trying to figure out what the hell I'm supposed to do to make this better.

I don't come up with an answer.

We get back to the school and Derek looks at Beckett with a frustrated and sad look before nodding to Brody.

"Go unpack I'll swing by room in a few"

He turns to me "you to"

I shake my head.

"Waiting for Beckett"

Beckett climbs out of the car that moment and Derek sighs.

"Just go Jasper, I got it"

I know he doesn't understand, but I hold my ground.

"No"

Derek gives me a look and Beckett looks at us confused.

"You don't need to deal with this, just worry about yourself and I promise I'll handle it."

I huff and cross my arms wanting to argue, but Beckett speaks.

"There's nothing to handle, you can both leave me alone I'm fine"

Derek and I both give him a look knowing that is in fact not true, but Beckett only grabs his bag from the trunk and walks away.

Derek sighs and turns to me

"Listen Jasper, I know whatever you saw today concerns you, but it's a lot deeper then you think and it's not something you need to get involved in, I care about Beckett he's like a brother to me. I'll take care of him"

I want to argue with him. Tell him that I know it goes deeper and that I'll take care of Beckett, but I clench my jaw and grab my bag instead.

"Whatever"

I head up to my room unlocking my door and dropping my bag on my bed. I contemplate going down to Beckett's room right now, but I figure Derek will probably be there and if he's not maybe Beckett could use the space.

Instead I unpack my bag and take a shower before putting on grey sweats and a black muscle shirt.

My phone rings and I look down seeing it's Maggie FaceTiming me. I accept her call and her face fills the screen.

"Hey! Just wanted to show you Harper's outfit"

She turns the camera and I laugh out loud. Harper is wearing a long sleeve pink shirt and tie dye sweatpants all with a brown dress over top and 3 dress up necklaces.

Maggie laughs.

"Harper show uncle Jasper your socks"

Harper kicks her foot out and I wince.

"Wow sweetie, did you dress yourself this morning?"

She smiles nodding proudly.

"I did uncle Jasper!"

I laugh because the neon green blue polka dotted socks and clear sparkly crocs were the perfect added touch.

"That's awesome"

Harper grins.

"mommy's gonna send you picture"

I nod "sure thing"

Maggie turns the camera back to herself telling Harper to go play.

"She wore that to school today"

I laugh shaking my head.

"Making a statement then"

Maggie nods shaking her head.

"This kids going to be the death of me"

I chuckle.

"nah she's just the cause of those grey hairs"

Maggie's eyes widen.

"Grey hairs! My hair is not grey you ass!"

I roll my eyes.

"I'm kidding, there's only one"

Maggie shoots me the finger before sighing.

"So how was your weekend with the rich?"

My face sours and Maggie chuckles.

"That bad? P told me about the beach"

I wince.

"Worse, when did you talk to P?"

She shrugs.

"he brought money by, sold the rest of the bags. Didn't take his cut"

I curse.

"I fucking hate when he does that"

She rolls her eyes.

"He cares about you, about all of us. He said he wasn't hard up on cash right now and I know Leslie just got the night shift so she's working steady hours the next week or two"

I make a face. I don't want to take money from Preston's family, besides his mom Leslie works enough as it is.

"Whatever"

Maggie nods.

"So seriously what happened this weekend?"

I bite my lip and flop down on my bed sighing.

"It was a fucking shit show. I spent the whole weekend getting paraded around and insulted"

Maggie grimaces.

"You didn't even have a bit of fun? Preston said you had a girl at some club"

I roll my eyes because of course Preston would tell my sister that.

"Yeah I sat with some rich girl rubbing herself on me for a good 15 minutes before she remembered if her daddy found out she'd be in deep shit, Beckett reminded her not to make that mistake."

I scoff.

"And that was after the security guard told Beckett he might not want to be seen with me"

I huff because remembering that actually pisses me off again.

Maggie's face softens.

"Oh Jasper, that's awful I'm sorry!"

I shrug.

"wasn't your fucking fault"

She sits down on her couch and sets her phone up crossing her arms.

"Is that it? You still seem pretty upset despite being back at the school"

I sigh because my sister knows me so we'll.

"I mean first of all I'm tired of being told Beckett shouldn't be seen with me, and second of all Beckett's dad an ass and he put Beckett in a bad mood before we left"

Maggie lifts a brow.

"I can come and put him in a good mood if you want"

She winks and despite her comment being intended for comedic relief it only makes me more annoyed.

"Quit fucking hitting on Beckett Maggie, I'm serious"

She looks surprised and makes a face.

"Okay sorry, am I making him uncomfortable? He seemed okay at the beach"

I cross my arms. Because she's not making Beckett uncomfortable she's making me uncomfortable.

"No."

She scrunches up her face.

"So why are you so mad?"

I glare.

"Because I don't fucking like it okay?"

She finally holds up her hands in surrender.

"Okay okay, sorry"

I shift awkwardly feeling bad.

"It's fine"

She nods and goes to say something else, but someone knocks on my door.

"Oh shit Mags I gotta go"

She gives me a smile and quickly tells me she loves me before hanging up.

I get up and pull open my door surprised when I see Derek standing there.

"Have you seen Beckett?"
