My eyes were shut closed but I was sifting in and out of reality...

I heard a loud, perky voice a few feet away from me.

"Aw, they look so cute together!"

Was that Mom? Is she really saying that or is this a dream...

I felt someone's arm around me. Is that my brother, Hyuk?

I open my right eye and peek over my shoulder. I'm surprised to find that it's... Taehyung.

I'm too tired to even say anything so I try to get out of his grasp. Big mistake. Taehyung then tightens his leg around me.

I whisper, "Taehyung, please get off."

    "No, Jimin-ah... One more minute..."

You think I'm Jimin? You wish.

"I'M NOT JIMIN!" I push him off me. Startled, he falls off the bed. Thump.

"Ugh, sorry I just get grumpy in the morning..." I mumble.

As I begin to help Taehyung off the floor, I'm more surprised by the sight in front of me. Right at my door, are my parents holding their cellphones, directed towards us.

"What are you doing?" I'm completely startled.

My mom lowers her cellphone and grins. "Nothing." She then glances at her screen and giggles.

I'm horrified. "Were you guys taking pictures of me and Taehyung, sleeping?"

My parents yell at the same time. "No!" But from the corner of my eye, I see my mom's screen with a photo of me and Taehyung on the bed.

I groan. "Why are you guys so embarrassing? This is an invasion of privacy!"

My mom speaks out. "Sorry, we just thought this was a one in a life time chance."

"Huh?" I'm bewildered.

My dad clarifies. "Sure we were a bit upset with you bringing a boy home without our permission, but we realized we were a bit harsh."

I raise my eyebrow. "Okay..."

"And we realized that this was the first time that you ever actually brought a boy home! And secretly! So obviously he must mean a lot to you." My mom wiggles her eyebrow.

I rub my temples. "Yeah, sure he means a lot to me but that doesn't mean I only see him romantically-"

My mom interrupts. "Taehyung is tall and gorgeous, and although he may be sickly pale and homeless, we've accepted his flaws! We give you permission for him to court you."

"Mom, you do realize that he did cheat on me, right?" I point at him.

My parents shrugged. "We've accepted his flaws and so should you."

I look at Taehyung and apologetically grimace. Taehyung grins, clearly immune to my parents' weirdness.

Surprisingly, he finally speaks out. "Y/n is a gorgeous girl, both the inside and out. But my heart is taken by a different man."

My parents were quiet.

"I was heartbroken for a long time. And I never thought I'd be able to like someone ever again... until Y/n came into the picture."

My parents coo.

"But then I met again the man who broke my heart.. it wasn't his fault, though. And I thought I'd be able to have a chance again, but he was forced to move away," Taehyung sighs.

My dad sniffles.

"And I don't know if we'll ever see each other again. And Y/n is such an enticing girl who makes my gloomy days bright. But my heart feels so full for my love for this man... I don't think I have any other room left."

My mother tries to persuade him. "But you don't know if you'll meet him again! Why not take the chance to be with Y/n? She could definitely make you happy."

I groan. "Mom!!"

My dad places his hand on my mom's shoulder. "I think it's time to give up. Taehyung seems set on his mindset and we should respect his boundaries. If he only wants to love one person, even if that person is not within his grasp, let him be."

Taehyung bows, appreciatively. "Thank you for understanding. But don't feel bad. I don't know what fate ultimately holds for me, but just because I'm alone doesn't mean I'm lonely. I was lucky enough to meet my soulmate and even if we never meet each other again, we definitely will in the next life."

My dad takes a handkerchief from his pocket and dabs his tears. "That was beautiful."

"Alright, thanks for the story. Now y'all need to get going..." I gesture for my parents to exit the door.

My mom raises her hand. "But wait! If you won't love our daughter, who will?"

"Huh?" Me and Taehyung simultaneously say.

"Y/n has never brought one boy home, ever. Heck, she barely brings any friends home. She's become so outrageous and rule-breaking in these past few weeks. I can't tell if it's a good or bad thing, but I think it's all because of you."

Taehyung explains, "First, Y/n doesn't need anyone. I've known her for quite a few years. She has friends, but she is powerful without them. Even if the whole world is against her, she stays stable. She's strong and unyielding like the mighty boulder."

"Second, there are people romantically interested in her. But just because they like her, doesn't mean they're good for her, right? Better be alone than have negative company."

"Third, I am not the reason for those changes in her."

"Then who is?" My mom asked.

"Jeon Jungkook." I knew what Taehyung was gonna say, but yet I felt I was gonna faint when he answered that.

"Jungkook... the mayor's son, really?" My dad seemed surprised with that answer.

"Why? Do you know him?" I asked.

My dad frowns. "Yeah. I was about to work for Yungho Jeon."

    "When?"

"You were really young, back when I still had my hopes and dreams. As you know I have a masters in engineering and I was great at designing buildings. Mayor Jeon wanted me to design infrastructure.. but the job was quite.. sketchy."

  "How so?"

"I was paid well but the construction workers below me were well underpaid. Also, he wanted me to reconstruct homes that people were forced out of."

"They were forced out of their homes?"

"Yup. Their rent was unfairly raised in a short amount of time to ensure they wouldn't be able to afford it... The whole situation seemed so unjustified." My dad shook his head.

"So why didn't you take the job?" I asked.

"Because it didn't seem like the right type of money. Taking advantage of workers who were underpaid and homeless people... That's not how I wanted to be paid."

"So you  refused to take the job?" I asked.

My dad nods. "And I've never been offered a career that pays that well since. We'd be rich and have our own mansion if I took that chance, but I don't think that was the type of life I wanted to live."

My dad was now forced to work at a sales job. Since the economy has been in an awful place, there were no well-paying jobs in our area for my dad's degree.

My dad completes my thoughts. "I'd rather be doing something that has nothing to do with my degree rather than doing what I loved, at the expense of the pain of thousands of people."

This gave me a newfound respect of my father. It wasn't easy to do the right thing.

"Why didn't you tell me this before?" I was always bewildered that my well educated dad never found a good-paying job. Well apparently, he did find one job, but it was too corrupt for him to take it.

"Jeon's son was one of your classmates. Didn't want you to have negative thoughts about his father. Also, everyone around us seemed to admire Mayor Jeon... I didn't want to ruin your fantasy of him."

   I nod, thanking him.

"So you've been hanging out with Jeon's kid, huh?" My dad crossed his arms.

I gulp. "Don't worry- he's nothing like his father!"

My dad raised his brow. "Really? I grew up with Yungho Jeon, and he seemed like a nice kid. But he grew up into a monster... Would hate for you to see that with Jungkook."

I shake my head, profusely. "That won't happen. Jungkook is a pure guy. And he will grow up with a long life and have little sins."

My dad raises his hands. "Alright. I'm just looking out for you as a father to ensure you won't get hurt."

I bow to show my appreciation.

Noticing the tense atmosphere, my dad changes the subject. "Anyways, I'm 'bout to cook breakfast. You kids want anything?"

I look at Taehyung and he nods, and grabs his stomach which grumbles. My dad laughs.

I speak up. "Yes, we'd love to have breakfast. After we get ready and eat, is it okay if we go to Chung's Coffee?"

My dad grins. "Of course. It's only Sunday. No school today." I laugh and go over to my dad and give him a kiss on the cheek. I kiss my mom, too. They finally exit my room with a wave.

    I walk over to Taehyung.

    "You're so lucky..." He sighs.

"Don't you have... Oh, never mind." I shiver.

Taehyung chuckles. "Satan isn't that bad. You know as the ruler of the underworld, you'd think he'd be worse. He's just a bit distant and wants my half brother dead and suffering in Hell and all."

    I grimace. "Right..."

After washing up, Taehyung wears some baggy, oversized clothes that I got from my dad's closet. Meanwhile, I put on a grey t-shirt, jeans and brown boots and tied my hair back.

After eating some eggs and toast, we head out the door. Within walking distance, we finally arrive at Chung's Cafe.

"Man, I miss this place!" Taehyung grins, sprinting to the front.

   Laughing, I follow behind him.

Sitting at a table with our caramel iced lattes, I finally speak.

"So how do you think we can save Jungkook? Any ideas?" I ask Taehyung.

"Well, can't we go to his house and talk to him?"

I groan, explaining how his gang will murder me if I speak or meet with him.

"What? Those people are insane!" Taehyung exclaims.

    I nod. "Yup."

"How many days are there left?"

"Six." I sigh, taking a sip of my drink.

He seemed exasperated. "I missed out on so much! We have such little time."

    "Yup." I frown.

Taehyung gets up. "BRB. Gotta pee!"

"But we just got here-" Before I'm able to finish my sentence, Taehyung sprints to the rest rooms.

I shake my head. Doesn't even feel like I'm hanging out with a devil. More like I'm babysitting a hyperactive kid.

Abruptly, a group of men barge through the door. I look at the entrance and my heart drops at recognition.

Dressed in black jeans, a tank top, leather jacket, and vans... was Jungkook.

As soon as we made eye contact, it felt like time stopped. Nothing else in the world mattered, just being in each other's presence was enchanting.

It looked like he was about to say something, when one of the men next to him grabbed his shoulder. Then that man looked at me and smirked, deviously. He placed a finger across his neck, like he was slitting it, then pointed at me.

Another guy next to Jungkook points a finger gun at me, then says, "Bang."

    Were they making death threats?

Jungkook shakes his head and says, "We can't be here anymore...." Without sparing me another glance, he hurriedly walks out of the shop. The men chuckle and follow him.

It was good to see Jungkook alive, but I don't know how much longer he would remain in this state. And I had so much to tell Jungkook, but if I spoke or met with him, my existence would be terminated also.

And it hurt so much to be a few feet within his presence but not be allowed to acknowledge him.

I felt trapped. Was there anyway to ensure both Jungkook and I would remain alive for a long time? Or was one of us fated to die very soon?

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I get that the main character y/n can be frustrating sometimes, but she's not perfect lmfao. Y'all calling her a bitch every 5 seconds just is insensitive.. y/n is prioritizing saving someone's life over her own health and life, even going to Hell.. she's clearly not perfect and can be over-emotional but I think she's doing best with the difficult task at hand, especially since she's been betrayed by so many people 🙂

I made sure no characters here were perfect, because it's very easy to make an inhumane character with no flaws, but nobody like that exists lmfao it's not relatable.. just watch ur local kdrama if u want that fantasy.. so please just sensitively criticize these imperfect characters without being super rude :P because I put a lot of love and effort into all these characters and it just seems like some of u guys are making fun of my hard work by hating everything I write lolol

sorry just had to rant because 'some' of these notifs I'm getting.. yikes

But I've been getting mostly love which inspires me to write more so thank you so much for that! 😊❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

and once again I don't mind criticism (example: pointing out plot holes, insufficient characterization) but literally cursing the main female lead every 5 seconds.. just seems like hate comments. Idk.
