Seen: 4:01 PM

I throw my phone on the bed and cover my head with my pillow and scream. Chao has read all my messages but he won't reply.

It's one thing if a boy doesn't even notice your messages but Chao is intentionally ignoring me! I had so many questions to ask him, but he won't respond.

How could Chao be this rude to me? I saved his life, and now this mafia leader thinks he has the right to leave me on read. When I tell you, that men are trash in every single way possible.

I felt tempted to call him, but I decide not to. I didn't want to seem that desperate-well, at least for now.

It was Thursday, afterschool. I finished a good portion of my homework during lunch. I decided to go to the police station, instead of calling. Yesterday, Deborah told me she had no updates on Taehyung and Jimin's whereabouts, but maybe she'd be able to tell me something more in person.

Since the police station was a bit far, I had to take a taxi there. It was expensive, but I didn't have a car and asking my parents to drop me off at the police station didn't seem feasible.

"Hi. May I speak to Deborah, please?" I ask the man at the front desk.

"Sorry, kid she's on vacation. You won't be able to speak to her." He barely looks at me.

"For how long is she on vacation for? I called her yesterday and she didn't tell me anything about taking days off." I raise my brow.

The guy shrugs. "I'm unsure but it could be least two weeks. Now, run along."

"Two weeks? I need to speak to her before then!" I exclaim.

"What is your problem, kid?" He says with aggravation.

"Two of my friends have gone missing. Taehyung and Jimin. I already filled out missing person reports on them," I explain.

The guy looks at the computer and shrugs. "There's no new info. Come back another time."

"Nothing?" I widen my eyes. "Can I at least have Deborah's cell phone number? Maybe she found something out."

The man shakes his head. "I cannot give any personal information on the officers. Please come back another time."

Defeated, I walk outside the police station.

I had to walk home because the taxi back home would be way too much money. A 2 hour walk shouldn't be too bad... I think to myself.

As I'm halfway on my path home, I hear footsteps behind me. Is someone following me?

I turn around and see no one there.

"Hello?" I called out and waited for a response. Silence.

I continued walking but then I heard the footsteps again.

I spin around really fast and see a person around my height with a black sweatshirt and an anti-dusk mask around her mouth. I could not recognize them.

    "Who are you?" I ask.

The person purposely deepens their voice. "You already met me... remember, when you were crying in the park?"

"Oh yeah. You said you were my guardian," I recalled.

She laughs from behind the mask. "Yes, I did."

"That's really strange though because I already have a guardian and it's not you." I cross my arms, thinking about Jimin, the angel who is assigned to help me.

She gulps. "There can be multiple guardians."

"What are you even doing here? Why are you following me again?" I was somewhat calm because I knew the person wasn't a demon. Jimin gave me a jewel to protect myself from demons so she can't be one.

"Have you seen Jungkook? Is he okay?" She asks, sounding quite worried.

I sigh. "It's complicated but he's involved in some affairs that keeps him away from school-"

She nods. "I heard about the engagement."

"Yeah, I might be able to get in there." I widen my eyes. Why am I even revealing this information?

"Good," she says. "He needs your help."

"Who even are you?" I ask. "Besides my supposed guardian."

She laughs again. "Our connections to Jungkook are a lot more similar than you realize... we are a lot more similar than we are different..."

This woman is confusing me and I don't have much to say.

"Just save Jungkook from his frightening fate... or don't." She finally walks away, into the darkness of the night.

I'm bewildered by her words but snap out of the trance. I try to find her but I finally give up.

"So weird..." I shake my head and continue walking home.

    ****

I finally reach my house by 7. My parents weren't home because they were occupied with work and my brother was at his friend's house.

I did some chores and some homework, then fell asleep at around 10. I deserved to get some sleep after these strange, lonely nights.

I woke up 6, showered, brushed my teeth and washed my face. I brushed my poofy, brown hair and tied it back into a bun. I wore a dark blue, floor-length maxi dress with some plain white flats.

For makeup, I put on some concealer to hide my underbags and acne scars and then some mascara and blush.

I looked in the mirror. Simple yet practical. This should be sufficient for an engagement party, right?

I attended my classes for the day, and then waited in front of my school.

    I texted Chao again.

      Y/N:
so r u gonna pick me up
at 3 at busan international high
school or did u forget?

PAPI CHAO:
oh don't worry, baby.
i didn't forget.

I roll my eyes at what Chao saved his contact name to be. Before I'm able to change his contact display name, I hear a bunch of kids cheering beside me.

I look up and see a Lamborghini park in front of me. Everyone else took their cell phones out, wondering who this could be.

A tall, dark haired man opens the car door and steps out of the driver seat. He waves at me.

    "Chao," I widen my eyes.

    "Hey, Y/n."

Everyone chatters around me, unable to believe that the wealthy Lamborghini owner could know my name.

"Is that your boyfriend?" Someone besides me ask.

   I stutter. "U-uh. N-"

Chao interrupts. "She ain't my girlfriend. Yet."

    The crowd around me coos.

Chao lowers his eyes and then looks up. He just checked me out.

"So is this good for the engagement party?" I ask.

He frowns. "It's cute... but it's not hot. And we need to make you look hot."

   "Huh?" I raise my brow.

"Come on." He opens the door of the front passenger seat.

"O-Okay." I step into the vehicle, unaware of how dangerous the next few hours of my life will be.
