"Huh? What is Jungkook on the news for?"

"I don't wanna say it myself. You need to see." Elijah explains.

I sigh, predicting the news reporter will be gushing all about Jungkook's perfect billionaire life. Unfortunately, my prediction were inaccurate.

Instead, I was something completely revolting and confusing.

A preppy blonde woman with bright red lipstick appears on the screen.

"Hi my name is Daisy and I'm reporting to you today's hottest news. Thanks for tuning in."

"First up, let's start off with a bang! Korea's youngest and richest bachelor is now taken! Jeon Jungkook, recently revealed as Mayor Jeon's son, was engaged last night."

I pause the video. What is going on? This didn't happen before I time traveled.

"J-Jungkook's engaged? But he's only a kid!" I cry out.

Elijah bites his lip. "Continue the video. It gets worse."

"Jeon Jungkook was engaged to 30 year old Lee Minseo last night. It's a controversial engagement since the kid is in high school but it's apparently ethical since he is 18 and legally of age in many countries-"

I shake my head. "I don't care he's of age. It's still weird since he's in high school for crying out loud! Besides, Korea's age of consent is 19. Why would this happen?"

Elijah seems as stressed as I was. "Everybody in school has been talking about it and I had to do my own research. Apparently, Minseo is a Korean-born girl who's been raised in Spain for her whole life. She's the daughter of another politician-"

"This is a political engagement," I concluded.

"Yeah. But here's the weird part. This girl only speaks Spanish. She barely knows any Korean or English words yet she's engaged to Jungkook. How can they even communicate?"

"So this is probably an arranged marriage," I bite my lip.

"Precisely." Elijah snaps his fingers. "I mean, has Jungkook mentioned this woman before?"

I shook my head. During these past two intense weeks, I learnt the most important people to Jungkook were his gang members and his mother. If this woman had any significance to Jungkook, I would have known.

"You're the only one who can put an end to this madness," Elijah concluded.

I point to myself. "Me? Absolutely not-"

Elijah groaned. "Come on, the only people actually close to Jungkook are absent. Yoongi, Jin and Hoseok are nowhere available. Jungkook kept a small circle, and everyone else was a fake friend to him."

"And what am I?" I scoffed.

"Someone who I heard Jungkook talking about in the locker room and in the hallways..." Elijah revealed.

"What? He talked about me?" I raise my brow.

"I mean, it wasn't even frequent but it was throughout the years. Everyone in elementary school knew had a crush on you."

    I snort. "He did not..."

Elijah crosses his arms. "Out of all the girls in our grade, Jungkook would only sign your yearbook. No one else."

"Yeah, but all that changed in 6th grade.." I grumble.

"Yeah what even happened then?"

Jungkook's mother died. And he felt hopeless ever since.

"Nothing. I'm sure he had good reason for his changed behavior." I look away.

I can't hold Jungkook accountable for our misunderstandings in the past. He revealed he was traumatized in numerous ways, and he apologized. I can't remain bitter for his cruel actions.

"But what can I even do, Elijah? I begged him to come back with me and leave that crazy life, and he refused and told me to leave him all alone."

"Sometimes when someone tells you to leave them alone, they mean they want you right beside them," Elijah explains.

I chuckle. "I can assure you. That is not what Jungkook meant. Maybe it's best Jungkook learns to fights his demons himself."

Elijah sighs. "I know Jungkook keeps hurting you, but he's in the midst of something that can change his life forever! Just because he's rich, doesn't mean he has problems."

"And just because he's rich, doesn't mean he can treat me like trash," I retort back.

"Whatever. But if Jungkook goes down a worse path, just know you could have been the person to stop him in the first place," Elijah snaps.

I stretch my arms. "Why do you even care?"

Elijah scratches his head. "Well, uh..."

"Don't tell me you have a crush on Jungkook," I tease him.

Elijah crosses his arms, defensively. "So what? Doesn't everyone at the school?"

"Well, definitely not all the straight guys who are jealous of Jungkook."

Elijah sighs. "I think we all know I'm not straight."

"Well neither is Jungkook's brother," I point out.

"So I heard. If it don't work out between me and Jungkook, I can at least go for the bro-"

I tease him. "Don't even try. Namjoon and Jin are end-game."

We laugh about this whole crazy situation. Despite the treacherous events that have happened, I felt so light talking to Elijah.

"Do you even know Jungkook that well to care for him like this?"I ask.

Elijah shrugs. "Jungkook didn't know me that well, and yet he convinced all the students in the hallway that were bullying me leave me alone."

I bite my lip. "So you knew what those kids were doing..."

Elijah sighs. "I may crave attention but I'm not an idiot. Yeah, our douchey classmates were making fun of a boy in a home-made dress. But I went along with it. Negative publicity is better than no publicity."

"Well, I loved the dress-"

"I know you did. Don't feel bad for me. We'll be out of high school, soon enough. Then the world will finally realize my talents like you do," Elijah assures me.

"The word will." I grin. "But I still don't understand why you'd go out of your way for Jungkook like this-"

"Because I admired Jungkook since the day he secretly defended me. And I feel I owe myself to protect him."

"But you don't know if he'll reciprocate any of your feelings back," I point out.

"And so what? Jungkook owes me nothing. You can't be selfish with love. It's not the responsibility of the person you like to give you the same feelings back."

I nod, completely agreeing with what he said.

"I wish for him to be happy and peaceful. That's all I desire. He can be with whoever, as long as it's the person he actually wants to be with," Elijah says.

I agree again. That is exactly the type of future I wanted for Jungkook.

"Sometimes, a one-sided love isn't a bad thing..." Elijah looks up to the sky.

"It's a one-sided love, but it's still beautiful," I finally say.

Elijah grins and we sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes until the bell rings. Elijah hugs me and wishes me luck. He finally states he's content with whatever I do, as long as I felt it was the right decision.

He pats my head and trots off to class.

Jungkook told me there was no such thing as a good or bad person, just what society dictates as good or bad but I'd have to disagree.

Because when I'm with Jungkook, we may break laws. We may do what society is against. But we help people and we help each other to become better.

We create our definition of good. And I'd fight the whole world to show them the good that Jungkook has to offer. Because that boy deserves to a long, happy existence. I will fight for Jungkook's right to live, even if the universe's forces against me.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know Jungkook is 21 in real life but this fanfic takes place in high school. 18 is somewhat(?) close to his real life age so I tried lol.

       HAPPY NEW  YEARS 🤩✨⭐️⚡️🎊🎉
Hope 2019 won't suck 💥💥
