The outcome

I could already picture myself in a French maid outfit, using a feather duster to work my way through antique shelves in some sumptuous mansion. Is this what I consented to? To be a house servant of some aged gentleman?

I'm feeling nauseous, a multitude of negative thoughts fill my head. What if my service gets purchased by some multimillionaire and he makes me move cities or countries? This can't be happening!

My lungs grow in size like a balloon when I take a deep, calming breath. Maybe there is a way out of this horrible situation? There must be. I really should've read the terms and conditions before joining this ridiculous company!

In a sudden surge of panic and determination, I open up the app and start scrolling down, in the end finding the piece of information that I was so desperately looking for.

Doomed. I am simply doomed.

Rayna scurries over to me. "Davina, what's wrong?" she asks.

Will is just idly standing in the middle of the room, watching me, his face unfathomable.

Rayna's hand lands on my shoulder. "Are-"

"I'm fine!" I boom. Irritation and disbelief begin to morph into one in my mind.

I burst into tears once it dawns on me that in exactly twenty-four hours I will become someone's servant.

I storm into the bathroom and lock the door behind me, subsequently sliding down its wooden surface. The tiles feel cold when I rest on them. Like the Moon at its new phase, the world around me darkens and disappears when I bury my face in my hands.

My palms keep the bathroom shrouded in gloom, so when the knock on the door reaches my ears, it actually sounds like a bang coming from inside a coffin. I shudder at this thought.

Rayna's voice jolts me out. "Davina, what happened?"

I sniffle loudly. "Just go away."

"Not until you tell me what's wrong."

Her words bring another waterfall of tears. The realization of what I've consented to and what I'll have to go through in the near future is truly devastating. I can't calm down. My cries become even louder, the ability to breathe begins to desert me.

Rayna's voice resounds anew, this time much quieter. "Oh my gosh. I think that Nathan dumped her."

Will says something in return, yet his response is too difficult for me to grasp through the door.

"I swear, I'm going to kick his-" Rayna tails off as I cut in.

"Just give me a moment." I breathe an unsteady breath.

All of a sudden, Will decides to interject, "Let me talk to her," he says to Rayna. He then turns his voice to me. "Can I come in?" he asks so softly that for a moment it makes me believe that he's back to being himself again.

But he's been himself this whole time. You've just never known this side of him.

"No-"

"Just for a minute, please," he entreats, and I find myself unable to banish him.

I hoist myself up from the floor. "Okay," I mutter, and unlock the door.

My heart clenches when he hesitantly walks in. It's like the veil that he had locked his old self behind dropped once he crossed the threshold of this bathroom.

It's strange that I can sense the change in his demeanor, but I know that it's my friend, Will, who stands in front of me right now, not the cocky man who a few minutes ago pressed himself against me.

I'm nervous, unsure what he's planning on doing, but then a huge lump forms in my throat when he wraps his arms around me and engulfs my body in the solace of his warm embrace.

His fingers stroke my hair, relaxing and soothing like a soft, swishing sound of palm trees.

When I try to speak up, he silences me, letting my tears soak into his T-shirt. Realizing that my state of sadness isn't going away, he bends his knees and looks me in the eye. "Don't cry, Davina. I don't want to see you sad." His thumbs get rid of my scalding tears.

My mouth becomes a thin line. "You're only saying this because you think that me and Nathan aren't together anymore." The anger is back. For a moment, just a split of a second, I really thought that he cared about me, regardless of me being in a relationship.

A single wrinkle appears on Will's forehead. "No. I'm saying this because I mean it. I know that Nathan has got nothing to do with you being upset."

I'm astonished by the fact that he referred to my boyfriend by his name and not any insult.

"You do? But how?" I frown, tilting my head.

Will shrugs. "I know that you're a very sensitive person. If someone broke your heart, you probably would have done much more than just shed tears."

His statement sparks my curiosity. "For instance?"

He wonders briefly. "I haven't got a clue. I've never seen you heartbroken, but I can tell that you are deeply devastated," he says, and pulls away, gazing down at me. " So, will you tell me what happened then?"

His words work like an anvil. My chest feels heavy again. "Nothing."

"Why are you lying-"

I break into tears again. Hot and salty outpouring stains not only my face, but also Will's T-shirt, because he instantly pulls me in, letting me sob hard into his chest.

24 hours.

That's how long I've got left before I get devoid of my dignity and most likely end up in some Playboy mansion. I have to do something first, and just the thought of it makes my heart scatter into pieces.

I need to break up with Nathan.

~~~~~~~~~~
"You have to eat something." Will passes me the sandwich that he bought for me.
I scrunch my nose."I'm not hungry." Is all I can say.
It's half five and my heart is beating out of my chest. I'm scared to death. In a couple of minutes the auction will be over.
I've told nobody about what had happened. The contract states very clearly that I can not speak to anyone about it. I'm just hoping that my service won't be purchased, or that the price will turn out so low that I'll actually manage to pay that hundred and fifty percent of the initial amount. Let's be honest. I've been so useless on that app, declined most of the calls . . . There must be a slight chance that my service won't get auctioned.
I haven't had the heart to break up with Nathan. I've tried going up to his room to end our relationship, but I just couldn't do it. I love him. I can not stand the thought of him not being part of my life anymore. I just can't.
Will glances from above his phone. "So stubborn. At least drink your hot chocolate."
Even though he's been acting friendly towards me since yesterday, he is still much different to what I've gotten to know him for. Sporadically, there is some bitterness to his behaviour, as if he was intentionally reminding me that we aren't friends anymore.
As for Rayna, she started acting a bit odd. She didn't question the fact that me and Will spent almost an hour in the bathroom last evening. She didn't ask what we were doing nor what exactly did Will want to tell me. She just seemed relieved in some way when I finally emerged back in the room, freed from the urge to cry.
I think that I might have upset her a little because I chose to find comfort in Will's arms rather than hers. I mean, it wouldn't have mattered if him and I were still friends, but now, Rayna was my only one, and I picked him over her after all.
I'm such a horrible person.
Wanting to break the awkward silence, I glimpse at Rayna, and venture, "Are you going for the lectures tomorrow?"
"Yeah. I feel much better now." Her voice shows no signs of annoyance.
I exhale in relief. "Good."
All of a sudden, there is a knock on the door.
Rayna looks at the both of us, bemused. "Come in?" she says gingerly.
The door opens, and Nathan makes himself known at the threshold. "Hi-" His face turns rigid within seconds. "What do you think you're doing, sitting on my girl's bed?" he snaps at Will.
Will being Will, only exhales in irritation. "Don't you have better questions to ask, Fall? Maybe have a look at your girlfriend. She doesn't seem to be jumping in exhilaration. I mean, no one would be, if they were with you, but how would you know how she's feeling, if you're always somewhere else, but by her side."
Nathan ignores Will's exhaustive response. "Have you been crying?"
"It's nothing. I just had a bad day." I shrug.
Nathan frowns. "Why haven't you messaged me then?"
"You were finishing off the tattoo designs. I didn't want to bother you." I take a bite of the sandwich, making Will smile.
"So you decided to spend your time with him instead?" Nathan's voice quickly becomes accusatory. "You know that he fancies you-"
Rayna springs into action. "I invited him."
A smile of disbelief curves Nathan's lips. "Why is he sat on Davina's bed then, and not yours?"
Rayna shakes her head, stupefied. "God, chill out. He isn't doing anything."
"Yeah, like I'm supposed to believe it." Nathan snorts.
"Excuse me?" Rayna gapes at him, offended.
Nathan's hands disappears in the front pockets of his jeans. He then cockily leans forward, as if he had an imbecile in front of him, and half-laughs. "Have we already forgotten about the day when you lie-"
"Enough," I cut in before he says a word too many in front of Will. Him finding out about the app, is the last thing I want.
Nathan pinches the bridge of his nose. "Whatever. Suit yourself. Just don't turn up at my door when you need something again."
I've never asked for your money . . .
He then turns on his heel and heads for the door. However, before he leaves, he decides to say his sincere goodbyes to Will. "If I see, or hear, that you put your hands on my girl," he smiles a cold smile, "I'll murder you," he says in a casual way, as if he was talking about weather. "Have the shittest day possible, Reyman."
As these words come out of his mouth, I begin to believe that he actually meant them for me because my phone suddenly buzzes. Throughout the whole time of the auction I had no possibility to check its course as it was only visible to the buyers. Now however, I was about to see its outcome.
