Chapter 1

"Two months."

"Don't be ridiculous. She won't make it for one month."

"Ouch, that is brutal, Yoongi hyung. Have some faith; she might make it longer this time."

"I am being realistic. I think you have too much faith, Jungkook."

My head begins to pound from the relentless chatter. The blood in my veins cannot help but boil with vexation while the three of us drag ourselves through the unforgiving forest.

I hear a shout, "Is that an insult?!?"

"It can be."

An annoyed growl leaves my lips, and I spin around to face the people behind me. I have had just about enough with my two Betas' nonstop chatter. For the past twenty minutes, they have been making bets on me and my patience has been running thin.

"Will you two shut up!!!!" I yell. Jungkook nearly jumps out of his skin and Yoongi snorts at my outburst.

Yoongi smirks at Jungkook, extending his hand out, "Pay up." My jaw drops at the two of them.

"Why did I agree to this?" Jungkook grumbles, finding some extra silver in his backpack.

A bitter snarl escapes my throat as I march forward along the path leaving my two Betas behind. I hear both of them shouting after me, scrambling to catch up. A jumbled mess of swearing leaves my mouth while they struggle to climb through the overgrown tree branches and shrubbery.

"Calm down Y/n. He owed me money anyways. Your Alpha-ness can relax now," Yoongi releases an exhausted breath, eventually returning back to my side.

Alpha Y/n. That is what they call me back at my pack. One of the few female Alphas in the world as well as the youngest in the past several decades. It was only two years ago I turned eighteen and became the Alpha of the Shadow Pack. There are three main packs in this region.

The Silver Pack—extremely wealthy and full of posh, high class, pompous, wolves who know nothing except sneaking their way into our lands and stealing our prey.

The Blood Pack—warring bastards who love to fight and murder all day as if their pathetic lives depended on it every day.

And lastly the glorious, magnificent Shadow Pack—only the most civilized and organized pack that demands to serve justice and is the only tether keeping these three packs together.

Except there is a problem with the Shadow Pack.

Me.

"How much longer till we reach Blood Pack territory, Y/n?" whines Jungkook nearly tripping over another vine.

The Elders at our pack sent us away on a "quest" they said. For years, the Blood Pack and the Shadow Pack have been fighting over a strip of land called the Snakeroot Banks. Their Alpha has agreed to discuss the border terms with our pack, but instead of meeting at neutral territory, the Elders decided to punish me by sending me away to their territory instead. Those horrid, senile, pieces of absolute garbage wolves-

"We still have 20 miles left." I sigh. We manage through the dense forestry, climbing through trees and chopping down vines. All of us are tired of traveling, constantly shifting to our wolves and back.

I ask, "What were you guys betting over earlier?"

"We were betting on how long it would take for us to get kicked out of the Blood Pack." I hear Yoongi say.

My mouth opens, ready to retort back, but Jungkook adds on, "and we were betting on if you would blow-up on us again."

Why are they my betas again???

I take a deep breath while surveying the path, "We won't get kicked out. The treaty will be signed and we will leave without much damage done."

"Much damage. Last time you said that we basically set Hoseok's house on fire," Yoongi notes. I hear a snicker from Jungkook.

"That was not supposed to happen!" I argue.

"You gotta admit that was funny though," Jungkook interjects.

A ticking time bomb. The hot-headed Alpha. The stubborn bitch. Those are just a few of the names they have called me since I became Alpha.

Luckily these two knuckleheads have stuck with me, but let's just say I am a very unpopular Alpha. Our pack runs differently from the others: the Alpha is not needed as much. There are other positions of power such as the Elder Council, but democracy cannot out win biology.

The Elders cannot do anything in a fight and that is where I step in.

"Hmm, I wonder if I will find my mate there," Jungkook daydreams. Yoongi and I hold in our laughter.

"I hope not," I blurt out, "I feel bad for the she-wolf who is mated to you."

"Nice," Yoongi high-fives me and Jungkook rolls his eyes at us.

"Fine then! I will not be helping you two assholes if you find your guys' mates!" Jungkook barks at the two of us. I scoff at his statement.

Like that would happen.
