To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

XXII | THE TRUTH

Of course, the expectation of Reece not picking me up for school today was a hundred percent accurate, I didn't even have to question it. I sighed as I got into my car then chuckled softly at how I rarely used it since Reece had entered my life and just after one month, he was gone, just like that. I was a bit nervous to see him even though I knew he probably wouldn't even talk to me, let alone look at me. In a way, from his perspective, I had 'cheated' on him.

Gwen basically forced me to change my clothes this morning when I came down with sweats paired with Ugg's and ended up wearing a shirt and skater skirt with boots.

My car roared to life as I started the engine, I reversed from my house driveway and started to drive towards the school, sighing once again as I was sure the news of me and Reece's breakup would be known and also the news of him and Brooke being back together too as well.

I felt my knuckles go hard on the steering wheel as I glared at the road ahead. I wasn't even going to give him an explanation, I just have to accept the fact that Reece was someone I shouldn't have had in my life, it's better to forget about him than trying to patch things up with him. Then I remembered we have the same set of friends, if Ocean and Zoey chose to stick with him, I would be okay with it, they've known him longer and are closer to him, at least I knew Ronnie, Chase, and Laurianne will stand by me. Hopefully.

I parked in a random spot in the parking lot. I watched as students and teachers spoke among themselves whilst some entered the school. I could already feel my nerves start to kick in. I frowned. I was tired of being the good girl, I was tired of being the nice girl everyone took advantage of. Look at where it got me now, not having either Xavier nor Reece. I was still irritated that Xavier took advantage of me either way. Knowing someone you like, or rather had liked took advantage of that to use it against you was pure evil.

Maybe I should have demanded Reece to talk to me even when Brooke had shown up. But then again, what if Brooke wasn't even behind this? In the end, I did not have any form of proof that she was the one. It could be one of the hundreds of girls in this school that admired Reece that could have done this. But no one knew that I had liked Xavier. Though knowing Brooke, she was manipulative, she could have easily known I had liked Xavier even before I had started to fake date Reece because I must admit, I did make it obvious that I liked Xavier.

I decided to not focus anymore on that thought.

Being the good girl had only caused me pain and heartbreak. I'm not going to be the same insecure girl anymore. I grabbed my backpack from the passenger's seat and carried it on my shoulder and opened the car door. I was still nervous but I wasn't going to let it show. I slammed the door shut and put my car keys in my backpack.

I started making my way into the school entrance, I felt eyes on me throughout as I walked inside the building, I heard whispering and wolf whistles as I passed by - the boys now knowing I was 'supposedly single' and now thinking they had a chance with me. I chose to ignore them and not give them the time of day.

I opened my locker and brought out my biology notes, "Violetta Ariel Maxwell." I rolled my eyes and came face to face with Ocean, Zoey, Laurianne, and Ronnie, they stared at me with shock looks on their faces.

Ocean frowned, "can you please answer my question as of why I saw Reece and Brooke making out in the parking lot earlier this morning? By that I mean he wasn't making out with you and I'm also hearing rumours that he and Brooke are back together, is that true?" Ocean rambled on.

I put my book in my bag and shrugged. "Yeah they are back together, so what?" I masked the amount of hurt that would have shown on my face and replaced it with a bored expression.

Ronnie's face grew more confused than ever, "Okay, last time I checked, you guys were still dating during the game so..." she left off.

I groaned and started to walk down the hall, they followed behind me. "Guys, look we broke up, he's back with Brooke, it's whatever," I laughed.

"But Brooke's a bitch, I never liked her with Reece!" Laurianne complained, walking faster so she was walking right next to me.

"Well, they are back together now and I really don't care, okay, so can you guys please just drop it!" I snapped, turning around to them which made them halt in their tracks.

Ocean sighed. "Okay, if that's what you want, but just know, me and Zoey are sticking with you," she said, giving me a sad smile. That was reassuring.

Zoey nodded, "yeah, Brooke can literally fuck off, we will pick you over her anytime," she smiled and I frowned.

"I don't want to be the reason your friendship with Reece is ruined," I said and Ocean laughed.

"Pfff nah, we've been friends with him way too long for it to come to that, he's just gonna have to accept it that way," Ocean said and I nodded.

"Well me and Violetta have to go to Biology, see you guys in economics yeah?" Ronnie asked, Ocean and Zoey nodded as we hugged them both, they turned and walked to the opposite side of where we were going.

"I'll see you guys at lunch, okay?" Laurianne said and I gave her a tight smile as me and Ronnie hugged her since I actually didn't have any classes with her, which was a shame. I watched her as she walked down the hall we had just passed until her figure was out of view.

Ronnie rested her hand over my shoulder. "I got your back sis, remember, it's hoes before bro's," she grinned. I laughed as we made our way to biology class.

We went to our seats near the window in the middle of the class. "So are you guys going to ignore each other or what?" Ronnie questioned, planting her notes on her desk.

I sighed, "That's the plan, I have no intention on talking to him," I said and Ronnie frowned.

"That's a shame, I would have really liked to see Veece babies running around in the future," she chuckled and I rolled her eyes.

"Ugh, first Gwen, now you with that Veece baby shit," I said and Ronnie laughed.

"Yeah, we were discussing what we should name your future babies the other day on the phone, if you guys indeed get married but...erm, I guess not," she frowned.

Mr Simon walked into the class and we greeted him, well, maybe like five people. People in this school are so disrespectful, he greeted back in a bored tone and removed some notes from his briefcase just as Reece, Miles, and Jake walked into class.

That's surprising, they are never early to class, like, ever, even freshman year when I had a few classes with them, they always came in late, how is Reece even still the top of the honor roll list in the school. Sadly I was only third after Zoey, who was second.

Mr Simon looked more surprised than anyone in the class as he glanced at the boys, heck, he even rubbed his eyes to make sure it was really them, which caused Reece to roll his eyes. Reece's blue eyes searched the room until his eyes landed on me.

It was like we were doing a stare down until I broke away and looked to Mr Simon who frowned at the three boys. "Well, this is surprising, so what do I owe this pleasure of you three boys actually showing up to my class early?" Mr Simon asked. Reece didn't even answer him and went to sit at the back of the class, Miles and Jake followed behind him.

Mr Simon scoffed and returned back to the board. Ten minutes into the lesson, I felt eyes burning at the back of my head, it was kind of uncomfortable, a part of me was hoping it was Reece and the other part hoping it wasn't.

"You okay?" I looked to see a concerned Ronnie looking at me, I gave her a small reassuring smile.

"Yup, everything fine," I whispered back, she nodded and returned to look at the board.

I still felt the eyes burn at my back. I desperately wanted to not look back but I couldn't, I took a deep breathe and slightly turned back. Blue eyes came into view. Reece was definitely staring at me with no emotion in his eyes, I thought once I caught him staring at me, that he would look away, but he didn't, he wasn't ashamed of even being caught.

I rolled my eyes at him and returned back to the board, ignoring the eyes burning at the back of my head throughout the first period.

The bell rang indicating it was lunch time, I quickly put my science notes into my bag, slightly rubbing at my aching head, the event that happened with Reece on Friday was still fresh in my brain and it was obvious that the thought would not go anytime soon.

"You okay girl?" I looked up to see Ocean looking at me, she had science with me, so we always walked to lunch together.

I sighed. "Yeah, just tired," I replied as we walked the halls to go to the cafeteria.

"You know what's the best way to get over a heartbreak?" Ocean squealed.

I chuckled. "Ocean I'm not going through a heartbreak," I said, which was kind of a lie and the truth at the same time.

She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, okay, I sooo believe that, but anyway, the best way to get rid of a heartbreak, is, of course, going to the arcade," she said.

I looked at her like she grew a second head. "Arcade?" I said and she giggled.

"Oh yes, when my last boyfriend broke up with me, Zoey and I played Pac-Man and Dance Evolution throughout that day, I was so relieved after," she said and I laughed.

"Um, I'm not really an arcade type of person," I said truthfully and she giggled and rested her arm around my shoulder.

"I know but you're still going. You, me, Zoey, Laurianne and Ronnie after school, we will just forget about any boy drama we have, go to the arcade, eat at a restaurant, all expenses paid for," she said and I frowned.

"You don't have to pay, we can all pitch in," I said and she shook her hand no.

"Nah, I'm paying, no friend of mine is going to suffer over a dumb guy," she replied and I laughed again.

"That dumb guy happens to be your close friend." I pointed out to her and she smirked.

"I know, another reason why I called him dumb because all my male friends are a bunch of dumb idiots," she said. You don't have to tell me twice...

We met Zoey, Ronnie, Laurianne, and Chase sitting down at an empty lunch table, it was indeed the lunch table me, Chase and Ronnie once occupied before me and Ronnie sat with Reece and the other popular kids.

Reece.

I looked towards the popular table and realized he wasn't there yet, I did a sigh of relief as we sat down at the table with our trays.

"Ugh I'm going to miss steaks and lobster," Ronnie groaned, causing everyone to glare at her. She looked at everyone, then at me, then stared down at her food. "Sorry," she mumbled in shame.

"Guys if you want to sit with Reece, I'm totally cool with it." To be honest, I was, I wasn't going to let them eat this school's poor food because of me, if they wanted to sit with Reece at his lunch table, I didn't mind, heck, I didn't even want to be here, I was fine with just going to the library and reading a book.

Zoey gasped. "Bite your tongue! We are not leaving you, okay, hoes before bros." She crossed her arms causing Chase to slightly raise his eye brow at her statement.

Ronnie nodded in agreement. "That's what she said." I playfully rolled my eyes, this girl binge watches the office way too much.

The cafeteria doors opened to reveal Reece resting his arm on Brooke's shoulder, she had a smirk on her face, Miles, Jake, and Landon followed behind them with other popular people.

"She disgusts me, I still can't believe she's the cheerleading captain, I can dance way better than her," Ocean said, eating her mash potato slowly.

Ronnie nodded, "And I'm sure I'm way better than her in bed," We laughed loud, I remember the day she told me that Reece was the last guy for her to sleep with from team captains in the school. It seemed so long ago.

I turned my back from Reece and his crowd and continued to eat my pizza. "So do you guys still talk to Miles, Jake and Landon, I mean, I talk to them with the classes I have with them," Laurianne said and we all nodded.

"Yeah, I mean, I would still talk to them during practice, but Violetta, if you do not want me to associate with them outside of practice I won't do it," Chase promised and I gave him a small smile.

"Look, guys, me and Reece breaking up isn't going to cause friendships to be ruined. Chase, you can still talk to them, even Reece, I do not mind at all," I said truthfully, then I suddenly frowned.

"What's wrong, Violetta?" Zoey asked and I sighed.

It wasn't fair I told Gwen this, they deserved to know as well. "Guys I haven't been completely honest with you," I said, they all gave me worried looks and Ronnie gasped and covered her mouth.

"Oh no, you're pregnant with Reece's baby?" Ronnie spat and Ocean, Laurianne, and Zoey gasped as well as Chase, who made sure to gasp more dramatically then the girls.

I glared at her, "um no," I said and all four of them did a sigh of relief.

"Oh, thank God, I wasn't ready," Ronnie said resting her hand on her heart.

"Okay, so what is it?" Ocean asked and I took a deep breath, looking at each of them one by one.

"Me and Reece were actually fake dating throughout this whole time."
